Time-Limited Love: A Contract Expired, Not Renewed novel Chapter 121

“Zinnia, you personally performed Xander’s surgery, and you’ve been monitoring his recovery every day. How could something like this happen so suddenly?”

The speaker was Juniper Jensen, father to both Xander and Noelle.

“Mr. Jensen, Xander developed an acute thrombus in his heart. This is a post-operative complication, and there are several possible causes. I’ll run a full assessment first thing tomorrow and let you know as soon as I have answers.”

“So you’re telling me that my son is in a life-threatening condition, and as his attending physician, you can’t even give us a reason why?”

A sharp female voice cut through the tension, dripping with accusation. The words came from behind Juniper.

Zinnia looked up and met the steely gaze of Noelle’s mother, Rosalie.

Rosalie’s tone was openly hostile, and Zinnia could sense the undercurrent of animosity. Ever since their first meeting at Old Ford Manor, Zinnia had noticed the barely concealed disdain in Mrs. Jensen’s eyes. Even in front of the Ford family, Rosalie had a habit of making pointed jokes, deliberately pairing Noelle and Landon together.

“Zinnia, we trusted you with my son’s life because we believed in your abilities. But after what happened tonight, you think you can brush us off with a few vague words?”

Despite Rosalie’s antagonism, Zinnia kept her composure and answered patiently, “Mrs. Jensen, complications after surgery are unfortunately quite common. But it’s late tonight, and I can’t give you a thorough explanation until I’ve completed further tests in the morning. Once I know more, I promise I’ll explain everything.”

“What do you mean, ‘it’s late’? Our son is in your care, and something went wrong. You should be giving us answers right now, not telling us to wait until tomorrow!”

Rosalie jabbed a finger in Zinnia’s direction, relentless in her anger.

“If you really want to know, Mrs. Jensen, perhaps you should ask Landon himself,” Zinnia replied, her voice polite but firm.

Rosalie was so angry she could barely speak. “Fine. Fine! Just you wait.”

She looked as if she wanted to say more, but Juniper stepped in, raising a hand to calm her.

“That’s enough, Rosalie. Since Zinnia has explained, we’ll come back tomorrow. It’s not like she can disappear from a place this size.”

He shot Zinnia a pointed look as he spoke.
