Tears welled up in her eyes as she screamed at Landon, “Do you think I’m just a liar now?!”

Landon didn’t answer. That restless irritation inside him just kept spreading.

“You all take care of her. If you need anything, contact my assistant.” With that, Landon turned to leave.

But before he could go, Noelle caught the edge of his coat in a desperate grip.

She looked up at him, pitiful and pleading. “Landon, are you just going to abandon me now?”

“Well, Mr. Ford, fancy running into you at the ER again.”

She tossed a glance over his shoulder, toward the spot where Noelle was sitting.

“Quite the attentive childhood friend, aren’t you? When your wife’s in trouble, you’re nowhere to be found, but the minute your little sweetheart winds up in the ER, you come racing in like you’ve got a sixth sense for it.”

Just thinking about how Landon had abandoned Zinnia in Norway—how she’d nearly died there—made Zoey seethe. She couldn’t stand the sight of him.
