Noelle’s face went ghostly pale. “Dad, are you saying Zinnia might have the hospital call the police?”

Juniper’s expression darkened. “What do you think? She’s been handed the perfect chance to ruin you for good—do you really think she’d let that slip by?”

As he spoke, his anger grew. “Even if Zinnia hesitates because of Landon and doesn’t press charges, what about Zephyr? You know how protective he is. Do you really think he’ll just let this go?”

Panic flickered across Noelle’s features.

“Then… what do I do? Zinnia’s such a conniving witch—there’s no way she’ll let me off that easily.”

Noelle’s eyes flashed with resentment. “I knew it. There’s no way she’d settle for an online apology. She just wanted to look magnanimous in front of Landon. Manipulative bitch.”

Watching his daughter’s twisted logic, Juniper was at a loss for words. Even now, she still believed Landon would shield her, no matter what she’d done.

Rosalie, standing nearby, looked increasingly anxious. “Honey, if the hospital really does go to the police, Noelle won’t actually have to go to jail, will she?”

Juniper frowned deeply, falling silent for a long moment before answering.

“The caretaker took our money. If the police question him, he’ll insist your brother insulted him, looked down on him for being just a caretaker. He’ll claim that’s why he did what he did—to teach your brother a lesson.”

He paused, his gaze heavy on Noelle. “I’ve talked to Mr. Miller, the criminal defense attorney. When the time comes, you insist that the money you wired to the caretaker’s son wasn’t a bribe to hurt your brother. You say you heard the caretaker was terminally ill and you gave him the money out of sympathy, nothing more.”

“As long as your brother doesn’t press charges, and we don’t either, then even if the case goes public, with a bit of careful maneuvering, you should be fine.”
