“All right, I’ll leave it to you, then.”
Zinnia nodded.
“Your brother is my brother too. It’s no trouble at all,” Landon replied, suppressing the smile tugging at his lips.
Seriously?
What a schemer.
Chandler couldn’t take it anymore.
He was only just now realizing how cunning Landon could be. Spotting how much Dapper meant to Zinnia, Landon was clearly trying to leverage that for his own benefit.
Chandler ambled over to Zoey’s side, leaned in, and lowered his voice. “Babe, maybe you should get a dog too.”
Zoey shot him a glance, reading his mind instantly, and gave him a frosty look.
“Nope.”
She could see right through Landon’s shameless ploy. No wonder he’d clung to Dapper the whole way home, as if letting go for one second would mean he’d lose his place in the house.
Right now, Landon couldn’t care less what Chandler and Zoey thought of him. He carried Dapper over to the couch and sat down, cradling the little dog in his arms.
Dapper had just woken up. His round, bright eyes stared unblinking at Landon, who held him like something precious.
Zinnia knelt in front of them, carefully wiping the dirt from Dapper’s fur with a damp towel. She couldn’t help but notice the way Dapper gazed at Landon.
