Time-Limited Love: A Contract Expired, Not Renewed novel Chapter 228

After all, that old fossil Zane had always sided with Zinnia.

Veridian University Medical Center.

By the time Zinnia finished a heart valve replacement surgery, it was already past noon.

The hospital cafeteria had started to quiet down. A few young nurses were huddled together, phones in hand, grumbling furiously about something.

When they spotted Zinnia, they beckoned her over.

“Dr. Quinn! Dr. Quinn!”

Zinnia walked over, smiling. “What’s going on? What’s got you all so riled up?”

One of the nurses handed her a phone with a downloaded video. “Take a look—doesn’t this look like our sweet Dapper?”

Zinnia took the phone, but as the video played, her smile faded.

Tiny Dapper crept along the wall, not running or making a fuss, just sitting obediently by the corner whenever someone passed. He didn’t even bark at the woman in the clip. How could anyone be so cruel to a puppy barely a month old?

Without realizing it, tears welled up in Zinnia’s eyes as she watched.

Last night, they’d checked the security footage, but the storm drain was right at the mouth of the alley and the cameras didn’t capture anything. She’d racked her brain, unable to figure out how Dapper could have ended up in a covered manhole.

If not for this video, she wouldn’t have known just how much Dapper had suffered.

“Don’t be sad, Dr. Quinn,” one of the nurses whispered when she noticed Zinnia’s reddened eyes. “The important thing is that Dapper’s safe and back with us now.”

Zinnia wiped her tears and managed a grateful smile.

“That psycho must have some serious connections,” another nurse grumbled. “The video was barely online before it got scrubbed from every platform. I tried to repost it but it gets taken down instantly. Damn corporate money!”

Zinnia finally realized the video had been circulating online for hours, stirring up outrage everywhere.
