Time-Limited Love: A Contract Expired, Not Renewed novel Chapter 279

But Landon couldn’t be bothered with any of that—he kept scrolling through his call history.

In the list of recovered missed calls, he finally found the ones from his father- and mother-in-law. They’d rung him repeatedly during the trip to Switzerland with Noelle.

He remembered now: it was that same day Noelle, taking photos with his phone, had dropped it and shattered the screen.

A bitter laugh escaped him.

How could he have been so blind?

Such a clumsy trick, yet he’d fallen for it—because he’d always looked at Noelle through the lens of gratitude, seeing her as the woman who saved his life. That filter had blinded him to every underhanded move.

“Mr. Ford, you should get some rest,” Charles said gently, concern etched deep in his voice. “I’ll have Yvonne cancel your morning meetings for now.”

He watched Landon anxiously. The fine beads of sweat breaking out on Landon’s forehead made Charles fear, for the first time, that his boss might not make it through this crisis.

Suddenly, Landon’s trembling hands picked up his phone and dialed a number, almost desperately.

It rang and rang. Finally, someone answered.

A faint glimmer returned to Landon’s eyes. “Zinnia.”

“Do you need something?” Zinnia’s voice was cool, tinged with impatience, echoing through the line.

The smile that had just begun to form on Landon’s lips froze.

He hesitated, then spoke, voice careful and fragile:

“Could you come to the hospital to see me? There’s something I need to say to you.”

“I’m busy right now. If you have something to say, just say it over the phone.”

Landon could tell from the background noise—muffled chatter, footsteps, the distant hum of a shopping mall or a busy street—that Zinnia was out and about.

The hope in his eyes faded again. “Then… when you have time, could you come see me at the hospital?” His tone was pleading, humble to the point of heartbreak.
