When the registrar spoke, she kept shooting Landon a few glances.
Landon seemed distracted, barely listening to what was being said. Zinnia, on the other hand, worried that he might actually be paying attention, so she quickly stood up and said to him, “Come on, let’s go. There are people waiting behind us.”
“Yeah.” Landon replied dully, getting to his feet and leaving with Zinnia.
Just as they stepped out of the administrative office, the registrar suddenly let out a surprised exclamation, “Wait, aren’t those two… Ford Group’s CEO, Landon and his wife?”
How could this be? Weren’t they always putting on such a loving act for the press? He even pampered her dog like it was his own family. How did it come to this—divorced in just a matter of days?
Tsk, tsk. Rich people really are the best at putting on a show.
“Zinnia.”
She turned around. Since Landon hadn’t caused any trouble, her attitude toward him had softened a little.
“I’ll drive you home,” he offered.
Zinnia shook her head. “No need, I brought my own car.”
“Goodbye.”
She waved at Landon, then strode off toward the parking lot without looking back.
Landon just stood there, watching her walk away, her steps light and almost cheerful. At that moment, a bitter smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.
She really was happy to be rid of him.
Suddenly, he remembered the beginning—how she’d been just as cheerful when they first got married, even though he hadn’t given her a real wedding.
But that happiness had only lasted at the very start.
After that, disappointment piled on disappointment. Every time he let her down, every time he chose Noelle over her, the smiles on her face became fewer and fewer.
And yet, he’d never noticed.
Or maybe he had noticed, but thought she’d be easy to win back, so he never bothered to try.
