Time-Limited Love: A Contract Expired, Not Renewed novel Chapter 34

“Are you that afraid people will find out about us?”

Zinnia fell silent.

She had no idea why Landon was suddenly asking this. For a moment, she just thought he was being unreasonable.

And as for his question, she genuinely didn’t know how to answer.

If she said she wasn’t afraid?

He’d probably think she had some hidden agenda, maybe even that she wanted to go public with their relationship.

But if she told him she was afraid?

What exactly was there to be afraid of?

Before she could figure out what to say, Landon pressed on, “Then why did you deny who I was?”

Zinnia said nothing.

Alright, she got it now—Landon was picking a fight on purpose.

After all, it was his idea to keep the marriage secret, his idea for the whole contract arrangement. Now he was acting like she was the one in the wrong for denying it.

The frustration inside her simmered, threatening to boil over.

She frowned, then tossed out a half-hearted excuse. “You’re my husband, aren’t you? Obviously you’re not just my boyfriend.”

She only meant to brush him off with a quick reply.

But for some reason, that answer seemed to please Landon. The stormy look on his face eased, and—was that a hint of a smile in his eyes?

“You never told them I was your husband, either.”

Zinnia had hoped the conversation would move on, but today, Landon seemed oddly persistent. He kept circling back to this trivial topic, refusing to let it drop.

Looking at her calm expression, Landon gave a short, bitter laugh. “You’ve really got the countdown memorized, huh? What, can’t wait to divorce me?”

Zinnia paused, catching the irritation in his voice, and glanced at him in confusion.

Why was he angry? Wasn’t this what he wanted all along?

As for remembering the date so well—how could she not? They’d signed the contract on their wedding day.

She remembered it every year, every anniversary. For the longest time, she’d looked forward to celebrating with him.

But Landon never remembered.

And now, this time, she still remembered—only now, she truly was counting down. She truly couldn’t wait for it to be over.

“It’s just the truth,” she said quietly. “There really are only two months left on this contract.”
