Time-Limited Love: A Contract Expired, Not Renewed novel Chapter 385

No wonder Morton had gone out of his way to invite him to Selvoria—only for his men to seize control the moment he set foot on Morton’s turf.

Yuri stood before Sawyer, hands in his pockets, looking down on him like a predator watching its wounded prey struggle for its last breath.

“Mr. Morton is a clever man. He knows exactly who to work with to make his plans go smoothly,” Yuri said, his tone cool and unhurried.

The words made Sawyer’s face contort in fury. “I’m your father! How could you do this to me?”

Yuri’s eyelids flickered just slightly. “Of course I see you as my father. Otherwise, the moment you tried to have my people killed, you’d already be dead.”

His voice was calm, his eyes as cold and lifeless as a frozen lake.

A tremor ran through Sawyer’s heart. He hadn’t expected Yuri to lose his grip like this over a woman—to betray the stepfather who had raised him without a second thought. And worse, Sawyer realized Yuri had, at least once, considered killing him.

Panic overtook him. He blurted out, “Y-Yuri, it was all a misunderstanding! That day, Juniper’s car lost control, that’s all. I never meant for that crash to happen—I only wanted to scare her a little, make it look convincing. You have to believe me, son; I never wanted that girl dead.”

Yuri said nothing, just stared at Sawyer with that same dead-eyed look, as if he were already a corpse.

Now, on the edge of death, Sawyer’s self-assurance collapsed. The fear was overwhelming. He dropped to his knees, begging for mercy, his voice cracking.

“Yuri, let’s talk this through, please? For the sake of all these years I’ve raised you… Let’s just talk, alright?”

Yuri let out a short, bitter laugh. “Dad, did you forget? I tried to talk to you. But you never listened.”

He took two steps forward and crouched down, reaching out to gently smooth Sawyer’s disheveled hair and straighten the wrinkled collar of his shirt, every motion slow and deliberate.
