Time-Limited Love: A Contract Expired, Not Renewed novel Chapter 399

“So much regret... I guess I’ve missed my chance again.”

A single hot tear splashed onto Zinnia’s cheek—scalding, almost as if it might burn her skin.

“Zinnia, I keep missing you. I missed you in high school, missed you in college, wasted three years of marriage, and even now... I’m still losing you…”

With each halting word, another tear fell from Landon, dripping onto her face.

“Landon… Landon…”

“You just promised you’d stay and talk with me. You said you wouldn’t leave me here alone—are you breaking your word again?”

“I’m sorry…” Landon’s weak voice barely reached her. “I keep lying, keep letting you down…”

“Then don’t lie to me now!” Zinnia sobbed, her voice trembling.

She kept talking to Landon, her words broken and desperate, holding onto him as long as she could. Landon seemed to be clinging to the last threads of consciousness, answering her now and then with all the strength he had left.

Zinnia had no idea how long she fought to stay awake. Her breathing grew more and more strained.

The air around her felt thinner by the second, suffocating her like a tidal wave. Her mind started to drift, her senses slipping away.

“…Landon, even if you wanted this chance now, I… I don’t think I can give it to you.”

The suffocating darkness began to swallow her whole.

“Zinnia… Zinnia…”

Landon’s desperate, aching voice echoed in her ears, distant and fading, as if he was calling to her from another world.

Suddenly, a blinding light burst overhead.

With great effort, Zinnia tried to pry her eyes open, to figure out where she was.

Just before her consciousness slipped away completely, a dog’s head popped into view.

“Da… Dapper?”
