As the thought crossed her mind, panic seized Noelle.
She couldn’t accept that possibility—not even for a second.
She had schemed so carefully to keep Landon by her side. How could she just let Zinnia snatch him back so easily?
Her eyes reddened with sudden emotion. Staring at the floor, she murmured an apology, her voice barely above a whisper.
“I’m sorry, Landon. I didn’t mean to talk about Zinnia like that. I’m just so worried about my brother that I lost control of what I was saying.”
“Alright, just don’t say things like that again.”
Landon’s tone softened, though the anger simmering inside him hadn’t quite faded.
Still, because it was Noelle, he allowed himself a little more patience than usual, but he didn’t bother to comfort her.
After a moment of silence, Landon seemed to remember something. He picked up his phone and stepped out to make a call.
When he returned, he told Noelle, “I called Zephyr. If you’re worried about your brother, let’s go to the observation room and see how he’s doing.”
Noelle nodded quickly. “Thank you, Landon.”
He gave a brief nod in return. Soon, a hospital administrator hurried over.
“Mr. Ford, Dr. Zephyr told me you’d be coming. Please, follow me.”
Landon and Noelle followed their guide down the corridor, eventually arriving at a glass-walled gallery overlooking the operating theater—a place where other doctors came to watch and learn.
From here, they had a clear view of everything happening inside the operating room.
The moment Landon’s eyes swept the room, he spotted a familiar figure among the cluster of surgeons.
She was dressed in green surgical scrubs. Her long, soft hair was neatly tucked beneath her cap, not a single strand out of place.
Her striking features were almost entirely hidden behind layers of surgical masks, and her star-bright eyes were half-obscured by a pair of medical loupes.
Even though he couldn’t see her face, Landon recognized Zinnia instantly among the sea of doctors.
Images from the surgery filled the screens overhead, showing Zinnia’s hands as she worked—every move confident, without the slightest hint of hesitation.
All the while, the sounds from the operating room filtered through, steady and relentless.
Dr. Chad, a cardiac surgeon who had accompanied them, noticed Landon’s intense gaze and assumed he was worried about the patient’s condition. He offered a reassuring word.
“Don’t worry, Mr. Ford. Dr. Quinn might be young, but she’s one of the top surgeons in cardiac surgery. There won’t be any problems with this operation.”
Hearing Dr. Chad praise Zinnia so highly, Landon’s lips curled in a subtle, satisfied smile. He couldn’t help but reply with a note of pride.
“Yes. She’s my wife. I know exactly how skilled she is.”
Whether he meant it as simple truth or as a boast, Noelle, standing beside him, could hear the pleasure and admiration in his voice.
Dr. Chad, on the other hand, was visibly surprised. He glanced at Landon with wide eyes.
“So… Dr. Quinn is married? And to you, Mr. Ford? Well, that explains a lot! She’s always so humble—none of us ever suspected you were her husband.”
