Time-Limited Love: A Contract Expired, Not Renewed novel Chapter 72

The last thing Zinnia wanted was for Landon to take out his frustration on her because of Noelle’s condition.

Landon’s face darkened; he had caught on to the meaning behind Zinnia’s unfinished words.

“I’ll take you to the hospital,” he said.

He refused to let go of her, a stubborn determination in his grip.

Just then, someone approached the elevator, casting a curious glance their way.

Zinnia saw that Landon still had no intention of letting go, and her frown deepened. She didn’t want to hold up strangers or make a scene in public, so she clenched her jaw and stepped back into the elevator with him.

They headed down to the underground garage, to the same black SUV Landon had driven yesterday.

Landon rarely drove himself; most of the time, a chauffeur handled it. As for her, the chances to sit in his passenger seat were even rarer.

Yet somehow, for the second time in two days, she had the dubious “honor” of sitting beside the great Landon himself.

Zinnia couldn’t help but smirk at the irony.

Neither of them spoke for the entire ride.

Landon seemed to be holding back a storm, staring straight ahead, driving in silence. His hands gripped the steering wheel just a little too tightly.

Zinnia was grateful for the quiet. She had no desire to break the silence, and she certainly wasn’t about to start a conversation.

When they finally pulled into the parking lot of Veridian University Medical Center, they happened to arrive just as Noelle was getting out of a car driven by her own driver.

She recognized Landon’s SUV immediately.

“Landon!” she called, her face lighting up as she hurried over.

But the moment she spotted Zinnia climbing out from the passenger seat, the joy on her face vanished.

Zinnia stood off to the side, unmoved.

Landon, swept up in worry, probably didn’t notice anything amiss.

But Zinnia was a doctor; the moment Noelle “fainted,” she could tell it was an act.

She didn’t say a word, though. She knew that if she called Noelle out, Landon would only turn on her, accusing her of being petty, of being jealous, of seeing the worst in his precious Noelle.

So Zinnia simply turned and walked away.

But even as she tried to make a graceful exit, Landon wouldn’t let her go so easily.

“Zinnia,” he called, his voice cold as steel.

She’d barely taken two steps when she heard him. Turning, she saw Landon cradling the “unconscious” Noelle in his arms, his eyes sharp and full of accusation as they locked onto her.
