Time-Limited Love: A Contract Expired, Not Renewed novel Chapter 99

It wasn’t curiosity about his injury—not really.

It was more like she’d only asked because he’d forced her hand, nudging her into it.

She was the one who wanted Zinnia to ask, after all.

But now that she had, Landon felt an odd weight in his chest, something caught between a sigh and a swallow, neither rising nor falling.

When Landon didn’t answer, Zinnia didn’t seem to care. She simply kept working, finishing the stitches in his hand.

Just as she was about to tie off the last knot, Landon broke his silence.

“It’s not what you think.”

Her hands froze mid-motion. She glanced up at him in surprise.

“What?”

Zinnia stared at him, puzzled by the out-of-nowhere remark.

Landon’s eyes locked onto hers, intense and unreadable. He continued, “When you came home and saw me with Noelle—it wasn’t what you thought.”

He finished and kept his gaze fixed on her, heart pounding with a strange mix of nervousness and hope.

Zinnia didn’t reply right away. She finished tying the knot, then said coolly, as if nothing at all concerned her, “I didn’t think anything.”

Her indifference only made Landon more agitated.

“Zinnia—”

He’d barely said her name when the door swung open and someone walked in.

“Oh! Dr. Quinn, there you are.”

It was an ER nurse.

Zinnia didn’t take the bait. She just offered the nurse an awkward smile and tried to hurry Landon along.

But Landon, stubborn as ever, insisted on making himself clear. “We’ve been married for three years.”

The nurse was speechless.

Noticing the edge in Landon’s voice, the nurse’s smile faltered and hung awkwardly on her lips.

“Wow, Dr. Quinn, you kept that quiet. None of us even knew you were married.”

Landon’s face darkened.

“Landon.” Zinnia’s patience was wearing thin. She gritted her teeth and called his name again. “Let’s go.”

She had no idea what had gotten into him, why he suddenly needed the whole world to know about their marriage.

Was he trying to make her life harder on purpose?
