Chapter 44 Calyx
Dinner had been nice. It was nice to have a family dinner. Hose was content to sit in Ama’s lap to eat her dinner. Once done, the had moved my lap, Rose talked mainly to herself and anyone who would listen,
Papa, she called me papa. I was over the moon, I would not admit it out loud, but it had hurt that Rose was already calling Mark, dad. I was expecting it to take a little longer for her to warm up to me. I thought for sure she would take a few days after the disaster of an ice cream date we had today.
I knew I came across as cald and indifferent to a lot of people. But my process still loved me and started to call me papa
Goddess, I was wrapped around her finger, and she didn’t even know it.
“Whipped,” Zvaid snickered to me.“/
“Like you weren’t wagging your tail like a puppy when she called us papa,‘ I scoffed at him.
‘Beren is a white wolf,‘ Zviad said, changing topics. Big tough wolf did not want to talk about appearing weak. I knew he loved Rose and would do anything for her.
‘Does that mean what I think it does?‘ I ask him. I was okay with the topic change for now. White wolves were said to hold power and able to directly communicate with the Moon Goddess.
‘It would explain why a witch coven was hunting her,” Zviad mumbled.
“But Beren hadn’t even shown up yet. Ama was by herself when Mathew had her locked up, I tell him,
‘I don’t know,” he growled in frustration.
This whole situation was getting more and more complicated as time went on. The more facts we found out, the more things didn’t make sense. It was like we were taking one step forward and three steps back.
“What are we going to do?” I demand. We had a mate to protect and no clear idea from who.
‘I don’t know, but whoever is hunting her, will not get her he growled to me.
I growled in agreement.
“You okay?” Mark asked me, interrupting Zviad and I’s conversation
“Fine,” I say, trying not growl.
“Dude, you’ve been out of it for a little while,” Mark tells me with a pointed look. “Ama took Rose to her room. You didn’t even notice Ama take Bose from you.”
I look down and notice my pup is gone. How out of it were we? I sigh in defeat.
“You want to talk about it?” Mark asks my.
I raise an eyebrow at him. We did not do heart to heart conversations very often. We usually relied on our bond as twins to understand what the other was feeling and know what they needed.
“Not yet,” I tell him after 1 sigh.
“Okay, I’m here when you’re ready,” he tells me. “Well as you sit here and brood, I’m going to go spy on our mate as she cuddles

and tends to Rosebud.” He lets and a cackle before he takes off towards Rose’s bedroom.
I growl at him as I stand quickly and move to follow.
“You better be bringing me your dishes young man,” Uncle Michael neders me from the kitchen.
I pause and look down at the table. My plate was the only dish still sitting on the table. I can hear James snickering from the kitchen. I assume that he had grabbed a beer from my uncles fridge and is pestering them now. I sigh. I grab my plate and take it to the kitchen. I hand it to Uncle Michael as he is rinsing the dishes and Uncle William loading the dishwasher. It was very domestic and I hoped that one day I would have this level of domestication.
“Thank you
for dinner,” I tell him.
“Thank you,” Uncle Michael says to me as he takes the plate from me. He then turns and looks at James, “When are you getting out of my house?”
“I’m wounded, don’t you like my company?” James laughs.
“Not went
you drink my specialty beer that my mate got me for my birthday,” he growls.
“My bad,” [anses laughs as he makes for the door.
“Better run, brat,”
Uncle Michael huffs with a smile.
1 laugh to myself as I enter Rose’s room. Ama is on Rose’s left and Mark is on her right. They look like the perfect family. My heart hurts at the sight.
“Papa, you read!” Rose lights up as she sees me, She holds out a book to me.
I smile to her. I ignore Mark’s dramatic gasp as I sit on the end of the bed. “Once upon a time,” I start as I read the book.
Rose is cuddled contentedly between Ama and Mark. When I look over the story book, I see her trying to fight off sleep. I smirk into the book as I keep reading.
“She’s asleep,” Ama whispers as I get about halfway through the story.
“Well don’t stop now. I want to know how it ends,” Mark smirks at me.
I go to whack him with the book when Ama shoots us both a glare. I get up and put the book on the shelf. Mark and Ama get off the bed. Ama kisses Rose on the forehead. The three of us leave the room and Mark pulls the door shut.
“So…” Mark smirks at Ama.
“I’m going to bed, and I want time by myself,” the sighs. Ama starts to use her crutches to make her way to her room.
I was curious how she knew which room was hers. But she was able to make it to her room.
I you
need
us, you know where to find us!” I tell her. I kiss Ama’s forehead and walk away. If I didn’t, I would do something we were not ready for yet.
“Spoil sport,” Mark hisses at me. He then kisses Ama’s cheek. “If you need anything, call.”
Ama smiles and nods her head. She goes into her room and shuts the door.
“Dude.” Mark hisses to me and slaps my shoulder.

“Never said that we would push,” he pouts.
“You’ll live. But she has to come to us when she’s resily,
him and go to our room.
