Half an hour later, Hunter finally released the breathless Noelle. Again and again, he felt more certain than anyone that she liked him and cared about him!
He didn't stay long and slipped away with clear reluctance. Meeting her resentful gaze, he promised. "See you at the qualifiers."
Until then, he wouldn't disturb her.
Noelle rubbed at her temples and watched Hunter leap out the window again. He was getting more outrageous by the day!
…
At the Haberkorn residence in Brindley, Maxine had just received an invitation from the Haberkorns to visit.
After spending two days in detention, she'd been racking her brain with ways to strike back and get revenge.
When she arrived, Laura Sherman was arranging flowers. She glanced up and coolly said, "You're here, Maxine."
Maxine bit her lip and sat beside Laura. "Mrs. Haberkorn, having Noelle around Hunter isn't good for him. She'll hold back his career."
Laura's expression stayed cold as she said, "That brat ran off for years and even fathered an illegitimate daughter, yet he still refuses to come home.
"Let him suffer over a woman, and once he does, he'll remember the importance of the Haberkorns."
"But…" Maxine hesitantly said. "She's awful. She's divorced, had a child, got into the training camp through Hunter's connections, and doesn't strive to improve at all.
"Also, she's tangled with Mr. Hamilton, and it's obvious that she's after status and wealth. How could someone like her stay by Hunter's side?"
Laura still wore that indifferent expression and unhurriedly arranged her flowers as Maxine anxiously added, "Maybe she's the reason Hunter refuses to come back! Hunter is a Haberkorn, after all. He can't possibly just stay out there!"
Laura gave a cold snort. "He believes he's capable of building a career without the Haberkorn family's support, but little does he know that what he's achieved is trivial compared to the Haberkorn family.
"As for the Hamiltons, it'd be great if he clashes with them. He'll then learn who his true backers are."
