At the Clarkson family business gala in Brindley, Noelle held her invitation and stepped into the hall. Most of the guests tonight were connected to Brindley's companies. She hadn't bothered with a disguise, but her stylish outfit immediately signaled that she came from wealth.
The Clarkson family had organized the gala as part of their push into the automotive industry, making the event especially important to them. As a racer, Noelle had gained attention for her impressive performance in the qualifiers, and Brindley's promotional videos featuring her had been playing across the city. Many guests recognized her and greeted her warmly.
It didn't take long for Maxine to notice her. She was seething with resentment toward Noelle and had been waiting for a chance to get back at her. Since Noelle had shown up at her own family's business gala, she wasn't about to let the opportunity pass.
She stepped forward, her tone dripping with mockery. "Miss, the Clarkson family's business gala is strictly by invitation. How did you manage to sneak in?"
Noelle took a sip of her champagne, keeping her expression perfectly composed. "I guess your memory needs a little jog, Ms. Clarkson. Have you already forgotten me?"
The tension between them was palpable.
Maxine narrowed her eyes. "I remember you perfectly, Ms. Quinn. You seduced my fiancé, and now you've come to stir trouble at my family's business gala. On behalf of the Clarkson family, I'm asking you to leave. You aren't welcome here."
Noelle feigned surprise. "I'm just here with friends, attending the gala. How does that make me a troublemaker? Ms. Clarkson, are you imagining things?"
She deliberately raised her voice, drawing the attention of nearby guests. Noelle wasn't alone. She had come with Brad and Mitchell, who were both among the top three in the Brindley automotive industry. If she were being humiliated here, there was no way they would stand by quietly.
As expected, Brad heard the commotion and hurried over to stand by Noelle.
Maxine's expression went cold. "We didn't invite a woman of your corrupt character to this gala. Now, Ms. Quinn, get out immediately, or don't blame me for being harsh!"
This was her family's business gala. There was no way she was going to let a woman she despised remain.
