"Clifford, when my parents died, you stood by me through the darkest times of my life. I thought you were my safe harbor."
Noelle's voice rang through the hall as she cast her gaze upon Clifford from a distance. He panicked. "No…"
Her smile was a mix of both sorrow and pity, and her gaze held a trace of mercy almost meant for herself. "But I never imagined that after giving you my all, I'd be repaid with betrayal and humiliation.
"While I was up all night caring for our sick child, you were in bed with your secretary. While I was exhausting myself for this family, you were busy worrying about another woman."
As colors drained from Clifford's face with each word Noelle said, she continued in a loud, resolute voice, "Clifford, you're just a selfish, pathetic coward. I hope you never find anyone who loves you sincerely for the rest of your life. I hope you die alone and unloved."
With that, she spun on her heel and walked away. Around them, printed pictures of Clifford's intimacy with Lola fluttered down the ballroom like a shameful snowfall.
Clifford's face was as pale as a sheet. He wanted to run after Noelle, but Brad stepped into his path and shook his head. "Mr. Fuller, when Ms. Quinn was securing partnerships for Thunderscape Group, she was running all over the city with samples, heavily pregnant.
"Her legs were so swollen that standing took so much effort, so how could you bear to let down a woman like that?"
Mitchell sighed. "I heard she stood for three days in a snowstorm outside a technician's house just to recruit him. That kind of grit earns respect."
Clifford couldn't help but sway on his feet. Noelle had never told him any of this, so for most of Thunderscape Group's partnerships, which she'd been responsible for securing, he'd assumed they came easily and effortlessly.
He never knew the weight she'd carried alone.
As Clifford's eyes dimmed, Harris waved dismissively and chimed in, "In business, we value trust and integrity above all. If this is how you treat the wife who gave you everything, I see no reason for us to continue our partnership."
One by one, the VIPs began to leave as whispers of remaining guests and employees came from behind him.
"I never knew Mr. Fuller could be this heartless. If he's that stingy to his wife, what does that mean for us, his employees?"
"Didn't you see? He bought his mistress a massive diamond ring worth millions of dollars, but only gave his wife a plain wedding ring that cost only a few hundred dollars. What terrible luck to be with a man like him."
"No wonder the mistress is so bold to welcome the guests by his side. I even called her Mrs. Fuller! That's just disgusting. They have no shame!"
Clifford spun around and shot them a glare. "Get out!"
The crowd flinched back, startled. They'd never seen him so irritated, so they dared not stay a second longer and quickly scattered.
Still holding Zayne's hand, Lola approached Clifford and reached out pleadingly for his arm. "Mr. Fuller…"
"Bitch!"
