"Don't get too cocky. I'll beat you," Alexis declared.
Noelle just shrugged. "I'm always open to a challenge."
Her casual, fearless demeanor was enough to show her skills.
Alexis' expression darkened further as Noelle finished changing and headed out to train.
"She's incredible."
As the trainees gathered around, Hazel couldn't help but exclaim in awe, "Only someone at your level could think of competing with her. Someone like me would've been utterly destroyed."
Of course, that was just a hollow attempt to make Alexis feel better. Everyone present had witnessed the vast gap between the two cars during the earlier race.
Alexis bit her lip as frustration boiled inside her.
Watching her closely, Hazel leaned in and whispered, "I wonder what her background is, but her driving technique just now felt kind of familiar… almost like Sheila's."
"No way!" Alexis immediately shoved her away and snapped, "Who does she think she is? How dare she be mentioned in the same breath as my idol?"
She stormed off toward the changing room, leaving the rest of the team sinking further into silence.
As Hazel watched her leave, a secret sense of satisfaction bloomed in her chest. After being constantly overshadowed by Alexis' arrogance all this time at the training camp, Hazel felt oddly satisfied to see someone defeat Alexis and put her in her place.
…
The first day at the training camp wasn't too pleasant. After training, Noelle was grabbing a meal at the cafeteria when she met Jude.
He silently slid into the seat opposite her with his tray and dropped a chicken drumstick onto her plate, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "I heard you gave them a proper welcome today. That's the Noelle I know, teaching them a lesson on day one."
Though none of the training camp staff had been around to spectate during the race, a video of it had been uploaded into the training camp's main group chat.
Before today, Alexis had been the camp's celebrated rising star. But after this humiliating defeat, she hadn't even shown up for dinner.
Noelle took a bite of the drumstick. It'd been such a long time since her last training, and it left her ravenous. "You wanted me to look out for them, didn't you? Wasn't that what you meant?"
She never believed for a second that her placement on Flame Speed Racing was random.
