Too Good for You: The Ex-Wife You Lost novel Chapter 38

"You were astounding on the track, Ms. Quinn! I was able to witness a perfect performance today!" Eric exclaimed, raising his glass in Noelle's direction. "Did you just start racing, Ms. Quinn?"

He had nearly believed Clifford and Lola when they told him earlier that Noelle had never raced in her life. As a result, he had been completely blown away by Noelle's performance.

Not wanting to shroud herself in mystery, Noelle decided to be honest with Eric. "No, I've had racing experience before this."

She wasn't lying. It was just that it wasn't the right time for her to return to the track as Sheila yet.

Clifford and Lola were also present at the gala. They stood in a corner like a pair of peeping rats, watching Noelle's and Eric's every move.

As he took in Noelle's calm and confident demeanor, Clifford gave his order to Lola in a stiff tone. "Go back to the room and take care of Zayne."

Lola was reluctant to follow his order. She could tell that he was going to approach Noelle once he got rid of her. If she left, there was a chance that Clifford and Noelle would get back together.

"I want to stay here with you, Mr. Fuller," she said in a troubled tone.

Frustration crept across Clifford's face, prompting Lola to add, "Noelle only managed to get into the national team through her connection to that old man. She's definitely not as good as me. Besides, today's race might have been a staged act between their teams.

"Noelle has already gotten into their good graces. If you seek her out now, there's a chance that she might humiliate you."

Lola initially wanted to curry favor with the representative of Divine Group on Clifford's behalf. However, Eric started completely ignoring them the moment Noelle secured her victory. He even stopped bringing up their potential partnership.

She grew anxious as she watched Eric and Noelle engage each other in riveting conversation. She didn't want Clifford to return to Noelle's side.

Meanwhile, Clifford was able to discern the direction the wind was blowing in the current circumstances. "Go back to the room," he repeated, wearing a dissatisfied expression.

He wanted Noelle to be the bridge to secure a partnership for his company with Eric. Although they were already divorced, she was still Zayne's mother. It was a fact that would never change.

Feeling troubled, Lola continued to linger around Clifford without any intention to leave anytime soon. She suddenly felt a strong force collide into Noelle's back, causing her to spill the wine she was holding.

Lola glared at whoever had run into her, only to see a female racer with a high ponytail sneering down at her.
