Too Good for You: The Ex-Wife You Lost novel Chapter 9

Clifford froze at the voice that was so similar to Noelle's, but he soon dismissed the idea.

Noelle was just a housewife who could only clean, cook, and look after Zayne. How could she ever be in racing?

Just as he walked up to Noelle, Raymond's assistant stepped in. "My boss would like to meet you, miss."

Noelle didn't spare Clifford a single glance as she turned and walked away.

"Here's your payment, Ms. Quinn. Prize cut plus winnings add up to six million dollars in total.

"You drove well. I'll be asking for your help again," Raymond said as he slid a check to Noelle.

She accepted it with a polite nod. "If there's a next time, I'll need notice, Mr. Lloyd. My schedule won't always be this free."

He was easy and understanding. "Coach Landaal recommended you, and I know it isn't easy to have met someone like you. Ms. Quinn, care to stay for supper?"

Raymond had lost to Flying Speed Racing too many times and finally felt the weight lift off his shoulders for the first time today.

He loved racing, but since they'd always played dirty, he'd never found a way around them. If not for Noelle, he'd still be the butt of every joke.

"No need, but… can I ask who placed a ten-million-dollar wager on me?" she curiously asked.

Everyone knew that Raymond wasn't the Number 12 racer today, so she wondered who had bet ten million dollars on her.

Raymond's smile turned sly as he jutted his chin toward the parking lot. "That would be him."

Noelle followed his gaze, catching only a glimpse of a tall, retreating figure. There was something about the silhouette, but before she could get a clearer look, the man was gone.

She could only drop the matter.

In the day, Noelle toured a new apartment with an agent and closed the deal on the spot with five million dollars.

In Brindley, where every square foot cost a fortune, she didn't need anything luxurious or spacious since she was living alone. The unit came well equipped, and all she needed was to pick up daily essentials to settle in.

Her childhood best friend, Sadie McCoy, came over to help and brought along several potted plants to liven up the place. She spent the entire afternoon cursing Clifford until Noelle could practically feel her ears callousing from the rant.

When the apartment was mostly organized, Noelle slung an arm around Sadie's shoulder. "When I'm away at training, remember to water these plants for me sometimes. To thank you, drinks are on me tonight."
