After beating Clifford up, the group quickly fled. It was a mountain road with no security cameras around, so they weren't worried about being caught.
Only after they got back to the car did Gale shoot Hunter a playful wink. "Did you hear that just now, Mr. Hunter? Ms. Quinn said you're better looking than that jerk, and in better shape, too."
Gale smirked knowingly. "Didn't think you and Ms. Quinn had already…"
Hunter cut him off with an icy glare.
Gale immediately shut his mouth and ducked down in the backseat.
Juned mumbled, "Serves you right."
Hunter glanced at his watch. "That's enough. We're heading back into the training camp in a while."
But inside, his emotions surged like crashing waves. He assumed Noelle only liked him a little, but now it was clear he far outshone Clifford in her eyes.
A smile tugged at the corners of his mouth without him even noticing.
…
At the Fuller residence, Zayne rubbed his sore eyes and yawned. "My eyes hurt a little, Ms. Perez… is it because I played games for too long?"
With Clifford away, Lola made an exception and let him play games. Zayne stayed up playing till two or three in the morning. When he woke up, he went straight back to playing without even washing his face.
But instead of reprimanding him, Lola simply set out some bread and milk for breakfast.
If it had been Noelle, she would have banned him from touching the game controller ages ago.
Lola smiled. "It's alright. Since you enjoy playing, go ahead and play a little longer. Technology's so advanced nowadays that even if your eyes get strained from playing, the doctors can make them better."
Hearing that, Zayne instantly brightened up. "Really? You're the best, Ms. Perez!"
His eyes did hurt a little, but that didn't bother him. After all, Ms. Perez said that even if his eyes got ruined, they could still be treated.
Seeing how absorbed he was in his video game, Lola asked with a smile, "Do you still want the toys your mom gave you, Zayne? If not, I can throw them out for you. How about that?
Zayne didn't even look up from the television, his eyes glued to the screen. "Go ahead and toss them, Ms. Perez. I stopped liking them ages ago. I don't like any of the gifts from her."
With a smile, Lola headed toward Zayne's room to tidy it up.
Yesterday, she had spent the entire night searching Clifford's room but hadn't found anything of value.
