Chapter 100
Helena had to get Charles, and the two of them went back to the staff quarters to eat, waiting for Sir and Ma’am to call them to clean up after they finished.
Valentina was eating with great relish. When she saw Xavier pick up a piece of Crispy Fried Pork Ribs, she thought they smelled delicious and said to Aveline:
“Aunt, I want some Crispy Fried Pork Ribs too.”
So Aveline put a piece on her plate.
Valentina took a bite, chewed, and said with a frown, “Aunt, these Crispy Fried Pork Ribs aren’t very good.”
Aveline glanced at her. “Really? Then don’t eat it.”
Xavier laughed. “You little rascal, getting picky now, are we? Helena is such a good cook, and you’re still finding fault.”
Valentina looked at Aveline and asked, “Aunt, you didn’t make this, Helena did?”
Aveline nodded. “Yes.”
Valentina said, “They’re not as good as the ones you make.”
Aveline replied, “I’ll make them for you next time.‘
Xavier glanced at Aveline, then picked up a piece of the Crispy Fried Pork Ribs and took a bite.
He paused, but finished the piece in the end. However, he didn’t take any more after that.
Halfway through the meal, Aveline noticed. Seeing so many Crispy Fried Pork Ribs left on the plate, she felt it was a waste and had to pick one up to eat.
After eating it, she thought Helena’s were actually quite good, just that compared to hers, they were missing one in- gredient, which was why Valentina didn’t like them.
Aveline glanced at Xavier, guessing that was the reason he wasn’t eating them either.
She had painstakingly perfected her recipe for these ribs. Xavier had been eating them for over a year, so his palate had become spoiled, and he couldn’t get used to Helena’s version.
If Josephine had made them, he definitely would have eaten them. And after one piece, he would have taken another.
Xavier had eaten at the Sutton family’s home once. That day, for some reason, Josephine had insisted on pan–frying fish, but she had cooked it until it was mushy and burnt, and still served it.

Even if Josephine had cooked it perfectly, Aveline wouldn’t have touched it, but Xavier took a piece and ate it. Not only did he finish it, he went for another.
Aveline tried to stop him, saying the fish was burnt and it wasn’t good to eat too much.
Xavier gave her a cold look, as if blaming her for stopping him, and still took another piece and finished it.
That day, Aveline had a faint feeling that Xavier had a crush on Josephine.
Aveline pressed her lips together, pushing aside the bad memories from the past.
She thought Helena’s fried ribs were pretty good and ate one piece after another, but there were too many, so some were still left over.
Xavier glanced at her a few times because of this, but didn’t say anything, just a slight smile playing on his lips.
Aveline ignored him, thinking he was being weird.
Valentina noticed too and said, “Aunt, do you like the ribs Helena made?”
Aveline nodded. “Yeah, what Helena makes is actually pretty good.”
Valentina thought for a moment. “Really?
Auntie, were you just eating it because you were afraid Helena would be sad if you didn’t?”
Xavier chuckled softly and said, “Your aunt is just trying to save Helena’s face.”
Aveline gave him a cold glance, then looked away and ignored him.
