“Hahaha, I think it’s because he’s here to run with me that I can keep going.
Thank you, Xav.”
Xavier glanced at Josephine, nodded, and said nothing.
Aveline stared indifferently at the ocean view, ignoring Josephine’s constant chirping and clucking.
Sebastian looked up from his phone screen then, smiling. “Aveline, your photography skills and artistic eye are amaz- ing. You made me look so handsome. You should have taken our picture together earlier.”
Aveline shifted her gaze from the ocean to Sebastian’s face and smiled. “You’re flattering me, Mr. Harmon, and being too modest. You’re an architect from a top university yourself, you take great photos too.”
Josephine laughed, “It’s so sweet watching my sister and Mr. Harmon compliment each other.”
As she spoke, she gently touched Xavier.

Xavier smiled faintly but remained silent, his deep, dark eyes glinting in the sunlight as he watched Aveline and Se-
bastian.
Aveline said to Sebastian, “Mr. Harmon, let’s head back.”
Sebastian nodded and agreed, then said, “Mr. Beltran and Ms. Sutton, you two carry on with your run. We’ll be head- ing off.”
Xavier looked down at Josephine. “Do you want to keep running?”
Josephine shook her head. “I’m done. I can’t handle more than half an hour. Besides, I’m exhausted from last night, and I went to bed so late. If you hadn’t dragged me out of bed, I would’ve slept till noon for sure.”
Aveline walked away after hearing half of it, not wanting to listen anymore. She knew Josephine was saying it delib- erately for her benefit, and it didn’t matter if it was true or false, as long as it got under her skin.
But Josephine didn’t know her heart had long since grown cold; it was impossible for her to feel anything anymore.
As Aveline walked away, Sebastian naturally followed.
Just then, Xavier spoke up, “Mr. Harmon, let’s have breakfast together in a bit. Come over to my place at Parkview Estates. My wife’s a good cook.”
Before Sebastian could even respond, Josephine chirped excitedly, “Yes, Mr. Harmon, come have breakfast with us! My sister actually went to school for cooking. She might not be a professional chef, but her food is definitely edible.”
Aveline stopped and turned to face Josephine, a smirk on her face. “My ‘definitely edible‘ cooking isn’t something a

person with no taste like you would be lucky enough to have.”
Josephine wanted to get into Parkview Estates, and Xavier wanted to bring her? Not in this lifetime.
Josephine’s face stiffened, then she looked at Xavier with hurt in her eyes.
Xavier didn’t look at Josephine, his cool, dark eyes fixed on Aveline.
Aveline met his gaze coldly.
Xavier smiled. “Since you don’t want to make breakfast, then we’ll cat out.”

Sebastian, apparently trying to ease the tension, said, “There’s a restaurant nearby that makes a good Seafood Risotto and Crispy Seafood Pancake.”
Since Sebastian had spoken up, Aveline found it hard to refuse. “Okay, Mr. Harmon,” she said. “I know that seafood place. We’ll go back and shower, then meet there.”
Then she added, “Mr. Beltran and his woman are heading back to Winslow Heights, so of course they can’t join us.” Perhaps it was because Aveline had specifically used the words “his woman,” but Xavier’s eyes narrowed as he stared intently at her.
He must be wondering if she felt jealous saying those words. Aveline, a mocking smile on her lips, glanced up at Xavier.
“Mr. Beltran isn’t the type to not take a hint, right?”
Xavier laughed. “Not take a hint?”
“You mean I’d be bothering you and Sebastian?”
Aveline also smiled, “Yeah. You’re bad luck.”
Xavier’s smile widened, but it didn’t reach his eyes, making him look unreadable.
