Aveline leaned close to Xavier and whispered, “Tell them to leave.”
Xavier glanced at her, his dark eyes as calm as an old well, and said faintly, “Don’t be nervous. They’ll just say hello and then they’ll go.”
Aveline glared at Xavier, her heart filled with resentment.
Xavier had never seen her look at him like that, and it was directed at him. He was stunned for a moment, then his dark eyes narrowed as he watched her.
Aveline coldly averted her gaze.
Rupert looked at Jacob and gave a faint “hmm.”
Lauren, on the other hand, looked surprised. “You’re eating here too? What a coincidence.”
Seeing that Lauren was being relatively friendly, Courtney nudged Josephine. Josephine got the hint and said with a smile:
“Yes, I’m preparing to shoot my first movie, so I invited a few core members of the team for dinner today. My mom and dad came along to thank them.”
“We saw your car in the parking lot, but we didn’t know which private dining room it was. I was just about to call my sister and ask, but then my dad happened to see my sister and Xav outside the room.”
After Josephine finished, Courtney said with a chuckle, “Since we ran into each other, we had to come over and say hello to our fellow in–laws. It would be rude not to.”
After speaking, she glanced at Jacob.
As if on cue, Jacob continued, “Aveline, honestly… The Patriarch is back in the country and you didn’t even tell us. We should have come to pay our respects and treat you to a meal.”
Courtney and Jacob were playing off each other. Anyone who wasn’t a fool could hear that they were accusing Ave- line of having no manners.
Aveline saw her grandmother tremble slightly, and then saw her grandfather’s hand on the table clench into a fist.
She had warned Xavier. Since he didn’t stop Jacob, Josephine, and Courtney, he couldn’t blame her for not giving his family face.
So, Aveline stood up and said, “Collin, Paulina, let’s go.
Rupert, thank you for inviting my maternal grandparents to this meal. We’re leaving now.”

After speaking, Aveline gestured for Miranda to help Collin, while she helped her grandmother up herself.
Xavier watched Aveline with deep, dark eyes, not saying a word.
Collin stood up and said to Rupert, “Mr. Beltran, my apologies. My wife and I will treat you another day.”
Paulina hesitated, afraid it would be improper to leave like this, but hearing what Collin said, she had to go along with Aveline’s wishes.
Rupert’s expression darkened slightly, but he nodded. “I was a poor host. Let’s have our two families get together at the Parkview Estates villa another day. I haven’t seen it since Aveline finished decorating.”
Lauren suddenly burst out, “Dad, how were we poor hosts? Those three wanted to come in and say hello, we didn’t know about it beforehand.”
Then she turned on Aveline. “Your grandparents don’t like them…”
Xavier cut Lauren off. “Mom, just let Aveline take her grandparents home for now.”
At that moment, Rupert stood up. “Aveline, Collin, Paulina, come on, I’ll see you out.”
Courtney had just nudged Jacob, hoping he would take the opportunity while Lauren was scolding Aveline to repri- mand her a bit. But when they suddenly heard Rupert say this, they looked at each other and didn’t dare to speak.
