Chapter 155

He ate faster than Aveline. When he was finished, he didn’t leave, just sat there watching her eat.
Aveline glanced coldly at Xavier, ignored him, and finished her milk.
Xavier always said he was busy and told her not to bother him, didn’t he? But now he had the leisure to just sit here.
After breakfast, Aveline’s stomach felt even worse, and she couldn’t help but press a hand to it.
Xavier saw it and said, “Finished eating?
If you’re done, let’s go. We’re going to the hospital.”
Aveline understood. He was sitting still because he was waiting to go to the hospital with her.
Heh, it seemed he wasn’t sure if she was pregnant, and it was making him uneasy.
After all, if she were pregnant, it would get in the way of him and Josephine being together.
A sneer touched the corner of Aveline’s mouth. “Couldn’t you understand the word I sent you last night?”
Xavier said flatly, “The Patriarch reminded me again last night. I have to take you to the hospital for a check–up. Without a report from the hospital, I can’t answer to the Patriarch.”
“If you don’t want me following you around all the time, just come to the hospital with me.”
Aveline said coldly, “Who you can’t answer to is none of my business. I’m not going to the hospital.”
Julian looked at Xavier, then at Aveline, and said, “Mr. Beltran, Jasmine and I will take Aveline to the hospital.”
Xavier’s gaze turned cold as he looked at Julian. “And who are you to her?”
Julian hadn’t expected Xavier to question him like that and was stunned for a moment.
Aveline, annoyed that Xavier was making things difficult for Julian, retorted, “He’s my senior from school.”
Xavier looked at her and smiled slightly. “I’m your husband.”
Aveline said coolly, “To me, he’s closer than you are.”
Julian hadn’t expected Aveline to say that either. He turned to look at her, but was speechless.
Xavier kept smiling, but the smile had grown a little cold.
Just then, Josephine walked over. “Xav, sis, are you guys done eating?”
She had a sweet smile on her face, making any uninformed onlooker think they had a close, friendly relationship.

If Aveline gave her a cold look, yelled at her, or said something sarcastic right then, onlookers would definitely think Aveline was an unreasonable, bad–tempered woman.
Aveline didn’t look at her. She picked up her napkin, wiped her mouth, and with a cool expression, grabbed her purse and said to Jasmine and Julian:
“Let’s go.”
On Xavier’s side, he asked Josephine, “You finished?”
Josephine nodded. “Mhm, I’m done. The breakfast here really is great. Next time I come to Mount Ardwood, I want to stay at the Beltran Hotel again.”
As she spoke, she glanced at Aveline, kept her smile, and added, “Xav, are you heading back to the city?”
Xavier stood up. “You go back first. I still have things to do.”
Josephine asked him again, “Are you taking my sister to the hospital?”
Xavier gave a quiet “mhm.”
While they were talking, Aveline, Jasmine, and Julian completely ignored them, left their seats, and walked out of the
restaurant.
Xavier and Josephine followed behind them. Josephine said, “Sis, why don’t I go with you? Xav is a man, so it’s not convenient. We’re sisters, so it’s easier.”
Jasmine rolled her eyes, leaned close to Aveline, and muttered, “Her own husband isn’t convenient? What kind of log- ic is that?”
Aveline’s expression was indifferent; she said nothing.
Though the words were quiet, Xavier and Josephine were close and heard them too.
