Chapter 175
Lauren saw Rupert’s dark expression as he stared at Xavier and Josephine. Her heart sank, knowing this was bad, and she quickly cut in:
“I’m saying, it’s not like you don’t have Gerald’s number. Just call him yourself. Why are you asking my son to do it?”
As she spoke, she reached out and pulled Josephine aside, away from Xavier.
Josephine bit her lip and looked at Xavier, looking wronged.
Seeing this, Lauren quickly moved between Josephine and Xavier, separating them.
It was rare for Rupert to look at Xavier like that; he was obviously furious.
What was wrong with this half–sister of Aveline? Didn’t she know how to avoid suspicion?
Even if Josephine and Xavier were really having an affair, it was still an affair. It couldn’t be shown so openly.
And calling Xavier “darling, darling” made Lauren’s heart pound with fear.
With her back to Josephine, she faced Xavier and glared at him, blaming him for letting Josephine call him that, espe- cially in front of Rupert.
Rupert was a very traditional man.
It was unclear if Xavier understood his mother’s meaning. He said flatly, “Have Eileen make the call. She’s the
client.”
Josephine was out of options. She gave Eileen a look. “Paternal cousin, you make the call. Just say Xav told you to, and ask him to be your lawyer.”
Aveline saw how Josephine was determined to involve Xavier and a sneer appeared on her lips.
Soon, Josephine would put on a show of intimacy with Xavier right in front of Rupert and Lauren. Then, they couldn’t blame her for insisting on divorcing Xavier.
Fiona saw and heard everything, feeling disgusted. She whispered, “So shameless.”
Eileen took out her phone to make a call, but the male officer said, “You don’t have to be in such a hurry to find a lawyer. We’re just taking a statement first. It’s not too late to find one afterward.”
Eileen was taken aback. “But she already has a lawyer. How can I not have one?”
The male officer said, “Just state the facts clearly. Afterward, we’ll review the surveillance footage and question the witnesses who were present to get the facts straight. If you are indeed suspected of attempted murder, then you can find a lawyer to defend you.”

Chapter 175
“Or can you not state the facts clearly?
We don’t have that much time to wait here for your lawyer to arrive. Why don’t you come with us to the station?”
Eileen looked at Josephine, at a loss.

Josephine coaxed her, “Paternal cousin, just go give your statement first. Don’t be afraid. Don’t admit to anything you didn’t do.”
Aveline said coldly, “Are you teaching her to lie to the officer?”
Josephine got angry. “Aveline, don’t go too far.
You spilled milk on my mom yesterday too. Can’t my mom also report you to the police for attempted murder?”
Aveline sneered, “The fact is, your mom startled me, which made me spill the milk in my hand. There’s surveillance footage to prove that, too.”
She was getting flustered, showing her true colors. She couldn’t bring herself to hypocritically call her “sister” any-
more.
“You…”
Josephine bit her lip, perhaps too hard, and her eyes started to redden. Then she looked toward Xavier.
Unfortunately, Xavier was blocked by Lauren, so she couldn’t get her look and expression across to him.
The policewoman urged them to give a statement again, so Eileen had no choice but to follow the male officer to an- other room.
It was Aveline’s turn to give a statement, so everyone else had to leave; only Fiona stayed behind.
Outside the hospital room, Rupert gave Josephine a deep, hard look, then said to Xavier, “You, come with me.”
Lauren was startled and quickly said, “Dad, Xavier didn’t do anything wrong. It was Aveline who insisted on calling the police…”
