Chapter 228
At the phone store, Aveline was standing at the counter choosing a phone color when a familiar voice came from be- side her.
She turned her head and saw it was Aunt.
Aunt saw her too, letting out a small “Oh!” “You’re here too.
Buying a phone?”
“Mmm, yes.”
Next to Aunt was a slightly chubby woman about her age, who looked Aveline over, her eyes lighting up as she asked:
“Whose daughter is this? She’s quite pretty.”
Aunt replied with a faint smile, “A relative”
“Is she seeing anyone?”
Aunt glanced at Aveline, then turned her back to her and gave her friend a slight shake of her head.
Aveline saw it all and could guess what Aunt meant.
Aunt didn’t want to tell her friend she was Xavier’s wife, and was also leading her friend to believe she wasn’t a good
person.
Aveline looked away with a cold expression and picked out a blue phone.
She paid, took the phone, and left without saying goodbye to Aunt.
Aunt huffed at Aveline’s back as she walked out of the phone store and said to her friend, “See? She left without even saying goodbye. She’s no good. You still want to introduce her to your son?”
Her friend sighed, “What a shame. She’s so beautiful, and my son has a thing for pretty girls.”
After buying the phone, Aveline took a taxi to her maternal grandparents‘ house.
Miranda said the old couple had gone for a walk. Aveline frowned slightly, worried that her grandparents would hear the gossip.
But she couldn’t just stop the old couple from going for their walk because she was worried they’d hear about Jacob causing a scene.
Oh well, if they did hear something, she would just have to comfort them and explain everything.

“Miranda, I haven’t had breakfast yet. Could you make me a bowl of pasta?”

Aveline finished her bowl of pasta, and Collin and Paulina returned from their walk. She saw they looked fine, so they probably hadn’t heard anything they shouldn’t have, and she felt relieved.
The old couple was happy to see her, but when they saw the injury on her arm, they were shocked.
“Sweetie, what happened?”
“Grandma, it’s nothing. I was careless and fell in the parking lot last night. I just scraped a bit of skin. I’ve already been to the hospital to have a doctor look at it, and they said it’ll heal after a few days of applying iodine.”
Paulina sighed, “No wonder you didn’t come here last night. You were afraid we’d see this, weren’t you?”
Aveline hugged her grandmother and said with a smile, “Yeah, I was afraid you’d worry.
It’s just a scratch, nothing serious.”
Then, to distract her grandparents, she took out the birthday gift she had prepared for Rupert: the pair of carved jade figurines.
Collin had a good eye for these things and said seriously, “This must have been expensive, right?”
“The original price was over a million, but I got a discount, so it was a few hundred thousand.”
Aveline didn’t mention that she’d bought it at the boutique in the Beltran Hotel, or that Xavier had arranged the dis-
count.
Collin nodded. “This is a good, respectable birthday gift. But where did you get so much money?”
Aveline smiled, “Grandpa, have you forgotten I’m working on that big project for the Crestmark? The first design fee installment has already been paid.”
