“Why would he give Mr. Jenkins a mansion?”
Alfred might be an internationally renowned painter, but he only had fame and fortune, no real power or influence. Why would Xavier try to get on his good side?
Sebastian replied, “Mr. Beltran had his eye on one of Mr. Jenkins‘ paintings and wanted to buy it. Mr. Jenkins would- n’t sell, so Mr. Beltran traded the villa for it. Strictly speaking, it was the villa for the painting.”
“That villa was designed by Bernard. As it happens, Mr. Jenkins was looking to buy a house in Entora, and when he saw it, he loved it and agreed.”
Aveline understood. If Bernard designed it, it must be exceptional. It was no surprise Mr. Jenkins liked it.
Sebastian added, “The painting’s market value is only about twenty or thirty million. I didn’t expect Xavier to like it so much that he’d be willing to trade a villa worth hundreds of millions for it.”
Aveline guessed Xavier was getting it for some important person, so she replied to Sebastian,
“It might be useful.”
Sebastian was a sharp businessman and had his own suspicions, so he understood what Aveline meant and just hummed in agreement.
“I’ll pick you up at six this evening, so you don’t get lost.”
Aveline didn’t want to trouble him and replied, “No need to bother, I can drive there myself. Just give me the ad- dress.”
Sebastian laughed, “My driver is driving, what trouble is it for me?
We’ll definitely have a few drinks, and you won’t be able to drive home then.
I guess Mr. Jenkins will invite a few people, it’s a small dinner party.”
“Alright then, thank you for the trouble, Sebastian.”
“Don’t be so formal with me.”
After hanging up, Aveline went to where Collin kept his tea, took a canister, and put it in a nice gift bag.
Much of Collin’s tea had been bought by her mother at great expense for him, making it the perfect gift for Alfred.
The living room phone rang. A moment later, Miranda came over. “Aveline, it’s Mr. Beltran.”
Aveline said flatly, “What does he want?”

“He asked if you were here, and then told me to have you take the call.”
“I’m not taking it. Ignore him, just hang up.”
Miranda gave Aveline a confused look, then went back to the living room.
“Mr. Beltran, the Heiress is busy and can’t come to the phone.”
Xavier said coolly, “Ask her if she wants to see Alfred tonight.”
Miranda had no choice but to relay the message.
Hearing this, Aveline guessed that Xavier must have also been invited to Alfred’s dinner party tonight.

Xavier had traded a villa worth hundreds of millions for a painting worth twenty or thirty million, so of course Alfred would invite him to dinner.
Aveline said to Miranda, “Didn’t I tell you to just hang up? Ignore him.”
Helpless, Miranda returned to the living room, picked up the receiver, and said, “I’m sorry, Mr. Beltran.”
With that, she hung up the phone.
Aveline remembered Sebastian saying it was a small dinner party, so she didn’t dress too formally, choosing a simple cocktail dress and putting on light makeup.
As it neared six in the afternoon, Sebastian arrived, with Fiona also in the car.
“Aveline looks so beautiful, right, brother?”
Sebastian looked at Aveline with a smile and nodded. “Very beautiful. You both look beautiful tonight.”
Fiona chuckled. “You didn’t say that when you picked me up, brother. I guess I have Aveline to thank for getting a compliment out of you.”
Aveline shot Fiona a helpless glance.
