At two in the afternoon, Xavier was in a black Bentley on his way to the airport.

A call came in from Gerald. Xavier’s expression darkened as he glanced at it, but he answered anyway.

“What is it?”

“Just get to the point.”

“Fiona just told me with that passive–aggressive sarcasm of hers that if she doesn’t see the divorce agreement today, she’s going to file for divorce in court.”

Xavier frowned. “Got it.”

With that, he hung up the phone.

Then, he called Aveline.

Aveline was at the construction site watching the workers build a garden pavilion. She was watching from a distance, wearing a sun hat. When her phone rang, she glanced at it and rejected the call.

Jasmine, standing beside her, laughed. “Seeing you do that, I just know it was Xavier calling.”

“He knows you never answer his calls, but he just doesn’t give up, does he?”

Aveline said flatly, “He’s just asking for it.”

Aveline shook her head, “I’ve been fine for a while. If I start to feel uncomfortable, I’ll go back inside.”
