But I really don’t care. The problem between Xavier and me isn’t whether I’m his savior, but that he has no feelings
for me.”
Julian fell silent, his eyes narrowing as he watched Xavier’s retreating figure.
The driver, Amy, was sitting on a sofa in the lobby. Seeing Xavier walk out, she quickly got up and followed.
Xavier glanced at her. “Have you had breakfast?”
Amy nodded. “I have.
Aren’t you having breakfast, Mr. Beltran?”
“No, I’ve lost my appetite. We’re heading back to the city now.”
Lost his appetite?
Did Mr. Beltran and his wife have another falling out?
Once in the black Bentley, Amy glanced in the rearview mirror while driving out of the hotel parking lot,
“Mr. Beltran, Bryan Wright just called me. He said the Heiress went to see him.”
Hearing the name “Bryan,” Xavier’s dark eyes narrowed. “The Heiress?
Leona?”
“Yes.”
Xavier’s handsome face turned cold. “Why would Leona go see Bryan?”
“Bryan said the Heiress asked him for details about your accident back then, and if he got a clear look at the face of the person who saved you.”
Xavier’s expression grew even colder and darker. He didn’t say anything, just turned his face to the window.
After a moment, he finally asked, “What did Bryan say?”
Amy replied, “Bryan said he did as you told him and said it was your wife.”
“What else did he say?”
“Nothing else. He said after he told her that, the Heiress left.”
Xavier was silent for a moment, a sarcastic smile on his lips. “Is he looking for money?”

Amy glanced at the rearview mirror. “He said his leg was killing him during the winter. Someone introduced him to a Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner, and it cost him a lot. Now that it’s warmer, his leg is better, but now his head hurts. That practitioner said he could help him get better, but the Herbal Formula uses expensive Herbal Reme- dies.”
Xavier said coldly, “Then transfer 150,000 dollars to him. Ask him if that’s enough.”
Amy sighed inwardly but said, “I asked him if 150,000 dollars was enough. He said it was.”
“I’ll transfer it to him when we get back to the city.”
“Tell him to keep his mouth shut.”
“Yes, Mr. Beltran.”
Xavier’s gaze was still on the scenery outside the window. The sun was bright, but his eyes were as dark as a deep pool.
His long fingers started tapping lightly on the door handle, the taps growing heavier and louder.
The driver, Amy, heard it and knew Mr. Beltran was getting irritated.
If Mr. Beltran were thinking, the sound wouldn’t get louder; it would be a light, rhythmic tapping.
After several minutes, the sound of tapping on the door handle finally faded away.
Xavier’s phone chimed with a text notification. He pulled it out of his pocket and saw it was from Josephine.
[Darling, where are you?]
Xavier replied, [On my way back to the city.]
Josephine: [Gerald said he talked to you. Can you please help Eileen?]
Xavier: [Gerald is her lawyer. He’ll handle it.]
Josephine: [But my paternal cousin wants to get out early. Can’t you help her?]
Xavier frowned slightly. [Isn’t she getting out tomorrow?]
[If she was really assaulted, Gerald can help her press charges.]
Josephine: [But the police don’t believe it.]
Xavier: [She can press charges if there’s evidence.]
A moment later, Josephine texted again, [Darling, my paternal cousin has been wronged. I feel terrible.]
