Courtney stood up, pacing back and forth with her noticeably larger belly. After thinking for a moment, she said:
“We have to find a way to let Xavier’s grandfather and mother meet Bryan, so they’ll know Aveline is a liar.
”
“You have to push Leona to create this opportunity.”
Josephine replied, “Leona is already planning it.”
Courtney added, “If Xavier is really serious about you, he will definitely divorce Aveline.”
Josephine was startled. “Mom, are you saying Xav might not be serious about me?”
Courtney looked at her daughter, not having the heart to tell her that because she was the daughter of a mistress, Xavier might be unwilling to marry her into the and let her become Mrs. Beltran.
After all, being seen with a wife who was born an illegitimate daughter would make him a target of gossip among the rich and powerful, and they might even laugh at him behind his back.
“Josie, whether Xavier is serious about you or not… that’s something we can test.”
Josephine quickly asked, “How do I test him?”
“That diamond ring from the brand Aveline loves, you said maybe Xavier didn’t get it for you, because you’d already received a birthday present?”
“Yeah, on my birthday I ran into Xav at the Beltran Hotel. I told him it was my birthday, and he told me to go into the boutique at the Beltran Hotel and pick out a gift.”
“But later at the bar, I pulled that ring out of his pocket right in front of Aveline, acting like it was my birthday gift. He didn’t say no, he just let me take it.”
Courtney smiled and said, “If that diamond ring wasn’t for you, but for Aveline, and Xavier let you take it, it proves he likes you. He wanted to protect your feelings, because saying it wasn’t for you would have embarrassed you.”
“Now, let’s test Xavier’s true feelings one more time.”

“That painting Xavier keeps in the study at the Beltran’s mansion… I looked closely at the photo Leona took, and it’s definitely one of Bethany’s paintings.”
Josephine asked in shock, “Mom, don’t tell me the painting Xav traded with Alfred for that villa worth hundreds of millions is one of Bethany’s?”
Courtney nodded, “It probably is.
“Either way, just tell Xavier you saw the photo Leona took, you like that painting, and you want him to give it to you.”
Josephine said with some worry, “Leona told me Xav said that painting was a gift for someone. He might not give it to me, and I’m afraid he’ll get mad.”
“I asked Claude, and he only knew that Xav gave a multi–million dollar villa to Alfred. He didn’t know about the painting, so he has no idea who Xavier plans to give it to.”
Courtney smiled and tapped Josephine on the forehead. “When has Xavier ever been mad at you?”
“You’re just testing the waters. Just be a little cute with him, and he won’t get mad. If he says no, then just let it go.”
“When you see him, just bring it up casually in person. No need to make a special call about it.
Josephine nodded. “I know what to do now.”
Xavier walked out of the hotel and got into a black Bentley.
The driver, Amy, saw his cold expression and sighed to herself. The talk between Mr. Beltran and his wife must have gone badly again.
There’s a misunderstanding between them, but they never clear the air. Of course their talks always fall apart.
Amy was anxious watching them and wanted to give Mr. Beltran some advice. But the last time she brought it up, he gave her a cold stare, so she didn’t dare mention it again.
Xavier looked at a message on his phone and asked, “Have you had lunch?”
Amy replied, “I ate at the hotel buffet.”
Xavier didn’t say anything, looking at the message. It was from Gerald.
[Josie said you went to Mount Ardwood to win over Aveline. Bro, aren’t you exhausted?]
