Leona saw his negative attitude and was furious, but she couldn’t lash out.
Josephine took a sip of her wine, then raised her glass to Xavier. “Xav, a toast to you.”
Xavier didn’t look at her and said flatly, “No need. Just eat.”
Leona frowned. “Josie is toasting you. What do you mean, ‘no need“?”
Xavier maintained his flat tone. “I’m drinking juice, not wine.”
“You…”
Marcus had figured it out. Xavier clearly didn’t want to see Josephine here. He was probably trying to avoid any awk- wardness, but Leona had invited her anyway.
That’s why Xavier was upset.
So Marcus tried to smooth things over. “We’re all friends here, no need for all these formal toasts. Josie, just enjoy your food.”
“Xavier is probably tired from work and not in the mood.”
“Here, have this piece of lamb.”
As he spoke, Marcus stood up, took the serving utensils, and served a piece of lamb to Josephine.
Josephine was flattered. “Thank you, brother–in–law.”
Marcus sat down and chuckled. “The man next to you is your actual brother–in–law, yet you call him ‘brother‘ and call me ‘brother–in–law‘.”
Josephine froze, not knowing how to respond, and instinctively looked at Leona.
Leona said irritably, “Josie calls me ‘sister,‘ so what’s wrong with her calling you ‘brother–in–law“?”
Marcus laughed. “Nothing’s wrong, nothing’s wrong. I’m just trying to liven things up.”
“You’re all so quiet. I’m the host, so of course I have to talk more.”
Xavier gave Marcus a deep, dark look but said nothing. He picked up his fork and put some food on Mason’s plate. Mason was quite scared of his uncle. Seeing him serve him food, he quickly said, “Thanks, uncle.”
Xavier asked him, “Did you go play with Valentina over the weekend?”
Mason shook his head. “What’s so fun about playing with girls? All Valentina does is tell me I’m doing this wrong or

that wrong.”
Xavier listened and chuckled.

Mason was too rough, while Valentina had been raised very well by Brielle, so she couldn’t stand some of Mason’s behavior.
While slowly eating her lamb, Josephine kept an eye on Xavier. When she saw his rare smile, she couldn’t help but
stare.
Across the table, Leona saw this and sighed inwardly at how infatuated Josephine was with Xavier.
But Gerald was annoyed that Xavier wasn’t talking to Josephine, who was right beside him, and said:
“Xavier, don’t just eat by yourself. Serve some food for Josie, too.”
Xavier looked at him with cool, dark eyes. “If you have the time to order me around, why don’t you do it yourself?” Josephine hadn’t expected Xavier to be so distant with her. She felt hurt and resentful, but she said:
“No, no, it’s okay. I can get it myself.”
Gerald felt sorry for Josephine and served her some food. “If he won’t do it, I will. You just focus on eating.” Marcus was a company CEO, after all. He was smart enough, or Leona wouldn’t have fallen for him and married him. So as he observed, he could see that Leona and Gerald were trying to set Xavier up with Josephine, but Xavier wasn’t having it.
What the hell was this? Xavier had already officially registered the marriage with Josephine’s half–sister, Aveline.
Have Leona and Gerald lost their minds?
Marcus had believed Leona when she said Xavier liked Josephine, but after talking with Xavier at the Granvia Restaurant and seeing his attitude tonight, it was clear that wasn’t the case.
He had no idea what got into Leona to have such a misunderstanding.
What kind of sister would try everything to get her own brother to have an affair?
