Chapter 371
Gerald frowned slightly, wondering if Marcus had said that on purpose or not.
Xavier and Marcus were talking face to face and didn’t notice the others‘ reactions. Xavier gave a faint smile and asked:
“Who did you get to roast this?”
“What, you want to meet them? Thinking of having the chef roast one for you too?”
Xavier replied, “Aveline’s grandpa, Collin, has a birthday coming up, and I was thinking it would be nice to have a whole roasted lamb for him.”
Marcus nodded. “Oh, so it’s Collin’s birthday celebration. Alright, I’ll give you that guy’s number.”
“Are they having a birthday banquet?”
Before Xavier could answer, Leona spoke up, “Isn’t Aveline trying to divorce you? You’re still going to her grandfa- ther’s birthday banquet? You think they’ll welcome you?“.
Xavier gave her a cold look. “I told you that’s not happening, didn’t I?”
Leona pursed her lips. “Are you just trying to save face, or are you just lying to yourself?”
Xavier’s dark eyes grew even colder.
Marcus quickly tried to smooth things over. “If Xavier says it’s not happening, then it’s not happening. Don’t talk non-
sense.”
Leona pressed her lips together and fell silent. After all, she knew that if she said any more, Xavier might lose his temper.
She still remembered Xavier’s fury when he kicked the coffee table in the study at the Beltran’s mansion.
Tonight was a setup to get Josephine and Xavier together. She couldn’t ruin it.
She glanced at Josephine, hoping she would say something.
Josephine got the hint and said, “Is my sister’s grandfather having a birthday celebration? I haven’t heard my sister mention it. Dad’s probably too busy and forgot about it. I should remind him when I get back.”
“Xav, what’s the exact date? I need to prepare a proper birthday gift too.”
Xavier’s dark eyes narrowed slightly as he looked at her. He said flatly, “Since your sister didn’t mention it, you should just pretend you don’t know.”

Then he put down his teacup and stood up. “It’s getting late. I should go.”

Marcus also stood up. “You have to work overtime on the weekend, too. You look tired. It’s good for you to go home and rest early.”
“Mason, say goodbye to your uncle.”
Mason was playing on his tablet. Hearing this, he replied without looking up, “Bye, uncle.”
Marcus sighed helplessly. “This kid. All he does is play.”
Leona then said, “Josie, you can ride back with Xavier.”
Josephine quickly stood up. “Okay, sure.”
Xavier was already walking towards the door. His cool voice drifted back, “Have Gerald take her home.”
Gerald quickly said, “I didn’t bring a driver. I’ve been drinking, so I can’t drive.”
Xavier stopped and turned around. “Then both of you can ride with me.”
Gerald replied, “I can call a designated driver service.”
Xavier laughed. “If you’re calling a designated driver to drive your car, why can’t you take Josephine home?”
Gerald was speechless.
Josephine lowered her head and bit her lip, looking completely lost.
Marcus’s gaze happened to fall on her. Seeing her like this, he was secretly surprised, wondering if this woman was really this weak and indecisive, or if she was just pretending.
If she was pretending, then things were getting interesting.
Leona said angrily, “Is it that hard for you to take Josephine home?”
Xavier’s dark eyes stared coldly at Leona. “Leona, do you have any idea what you’re doing, or what you’re saying?”
“I…”
The words were on the tip of Leona’s tongue, but she didn’t dare say them.
