Josephine said impatiently, “Dad, she’s not here for a social visit. She’s here for me and asked me to go out.”

“You should still invite her in for some tea.”

Josephine nodded and hurried out.

Jacob was confused. “What’s going on?”

Leona frowned. “What are you talking about? I brought Bryan back from abroad and I’m having him meet the Patri- arch. I’m helping you. How can you say I’m getting you in trouble?”

Josephine was startled and quickly explained, “No, that was just a slip of the tongue. What I mean is, I’m scared of Xav.”

“What’s there to be scared of? It’s not like you’re doing anything illegal.”

A black Bentley stopped in front of the gate of Leona’s suburban villa. Xavier opened the car door and got out, his face grim.

The lights were on on the first floor of the villa, so someone should be inside.

Xavier rang the doorbell.
