Chapter 387
He stood up, walked closer to her, and said in a low voice, “Aveline, Leona brought Bryan back to the country to see the Patriarch. Aren’t you afraid of what Bryan might tell him?”
Aveline sneered, “Does this Bryan have any dirt on me? Why should I be afraid?”
A flicker of pain seemed to cross Xavier’s eyes as he looked at Aveline. Aveline wondered if she was seeing things, so she frowned slightly.
Xavier saw it and reached out to touch her face. “Aveline…”
Aveline slapped his hand away. “Don’t touch me.”
Before she could finish, Xavier pulled her into a tight embrace.
“Aveline, Bryan saw everything that day. I don’t know why you lied to me, but I don’t care about that anymore. Can you just tell me why?”
Aveline frowned slightly, thinking. She probably knew what he was talking about. She said coldly, “Let go of me, then get out.”
Xavier didn’t move, still holding her tightly. The air was filled with his scent.
Aveline’s expression was icy, and she didn’t move either. She didn’t believe he could hold her like this all night.
Although she didn’t know what was going on with Bryan, if Xavier suspected she wasn’t the one who saved him, then let him keep suspecting.
She didn’t care anymore and couldn’t be bothered to argue about it.
Because once they were divorced, their lives would no longer intersect, except for work.
Let Xavier live in whatever lie someone had spun for him.
It’s not like anyone would die from it, anyway.
And she didn’t owe him anything.
After a long moment, Xavier finally spoke. “Whatever the reason is, Aveline, just tell me, and I can accept it.”
“Because I love you, you understand?
Why else would I have married you?”
Aveline replied coolly, “I have nothing to tell you, because I don’t love you anymore.”
Xavier shuddered slightly as he held Aveline.

Aveline was surprised, but her heart quickly hardened again. “You can let go of me now, can’t you? Are you planning to hold me like this all night?”
But Xavier’s arms around her tightened. After a moment, he finally let her go.
His dark eyes were unreadable as he looked down at her.
Aveline coolly averted her gaze, took a few steps back, and watched him in silence, her meaning clear: he should leave.
Xavier met her gaze for a moment, then said flatly, “I’ll take care of the situation with Bryan. You don’t need to wor- ry.”
With that, he walked to the door, opened it, and left.
Aveline rolled her eyes.
Like hell she was worried.
She really didn’t know who had given him that love potion. It was just bizarre.
Anyway, his misunderstanding wouldn’t cost him anything, nor would it cost her anything. Let him live in his own confusion.
Aveline grabbed a book, got into bed, and leaned against the headboard to read.
Amy drove the car to the hotel entrance and waited and waited, but after a long time, Xavier still hadn’t come down.
She guessed Mr. Beltran must have gone to see his wife.
Finally, she saw Mr. Beltran come out of the hotel, but his expression was terrifyingly cold.
Sigh, the talk with his wife must have gone badly again.
Xavier got in the car and said coldly, “Back to the city.”
Amy said while driving, “Mr. Beltran, we found out Barry and Bryan took a cab to the suburbs after leaving the air- port.”
“Then go straight to Leona’s house in the suburbs.”
At the Suttons‘ house, Josephine was just coming out of the bathroom after a shower when her phone rang. It was Leona calling.
