Xavier’s dark eyes narrowed slightly as he glanced at the back seat, then he said to Josephine in a flat voice, “Get in the car.”
Josephine said okay, but instead of getting in the back, she walked around to the front passenger seat and got in.
Xavier got into the driver’s seat and, while fastening his seatbelt, said, “Say that community’s address again, I’ll put it in the GPS.”
Usually, the driver drove, so he wasn’t very familiar with some areas.
Aveline had no choice but to say it again.
Josephine eagerly volunteered, “Darling, I’ll navigate for you.”
As she spoke, she leaned over to operate the car’s navigation system.
Aveline remained silent, continuing to listen to Valentina talk about what she ate tonight and what she thought was delicious.
When they arrived at Anmin Residential Community, Aveline rolled down her window and spoke to the security guard, who let both cars into the community.
Josephine also rolled down her window to look around, saying, “Oh my, sister, why aren’t you living in your nice mansion? Why did you move to such a rundown community?
You couldn’t have bought a place here. You’re renting, right?”
Anmin Residential Community was indeed not a luxury complex, but it wasn’t the rundown place Josephine described either. It was a community for the middle class with good security, and it was quite new, having only been built three or four years ago.
Back then, Aveline, Jasmine Scott, and Julian Poole chose to rent a place here for their studio. On one hand, the loca- tion was downtown and convenient for transportation. On the other hand, the rent was just right–not cheap, but not expensive either. It was a price they could afford and it provided a satisfactory environment.
Aveline still ignored Josephine, letting her continue with her baseless taunts.
She knew Josephine wasn’t just mocking her, but also saying it for Xavier to hear.
But if Xavier had a brain and wasn’t blind, he could see for himself what kind of neighborhood this was.
If Xavier wasn’t comfortable with Valentina staying here, he could just take her back.
Xavier said nothing and pulled the car up to the entrance of the building.

Chapter 41
266 TOUCHOTE
Aveline got out with Valentina, told her driver to park in an empty space, and then took Valentina’s hand.
“Valentina, come on, let’s go inside.”
Valentina waved to Xavier, “Bye, Uncle. Goodnight, Uncle.”
But Xavier said, “I’m coming up with you.”
Aveline gave him a cold, distant look, implying it wasn’t necessary.
Xavier’s dark eyes were unreadable as he met her gaze. He said flatly, “I need to see what the apartment is like before I’m comfortable with Valentina staying here.”
If Aveline wasn’t afraid of hurting Valentina’s feelings, she would have told him to take Valentina and get lost right
now.
Josephine hadn’t wanted to get out of the car, but hearing what Xavier said, she immediately opened the door, got out, and said,
“Darling, let me go upstairs with my sister.”
Aveline’s cold gaze turned to Josephine. If Valentina wasn’t here, she would have asked Josephine just who the hell she thought she was.
She took Valentina’s hand and walked into the apartment building, not bothering with Xavier and Josephine anymore.
Xavier said to Josephine, “You wait here. I’ll take them upstairs and be right back.”
Since Xavier said so, Josephine had no choice but to stay and nod.
Inside the elevator, Xavier watched Aveline press the button for the fifth floor and asked, “Did you buy it or are you renting?”
Aveline stared coldly at the numbers, not answering, as if she hadn’t heard his question.
Xavier didn’t mind her coldness at all and just smiled.
