Chapter 443
In the Baldwin family’s car up ahead, Paulina asked Aveline, “What did that manager say about someone leaving a note for you?”
“Was it your dad?”
Aveline said coolly, “He’s not my dad anymore.”
“Paulina, Collin, I’m planning to change my last name.”
She had planned to go to Jacob to get the Household Registry, but after the scene tonight, it probably wouldn’t be so easy.
“It wasn’t Jacob. It was a friend who saw I was at the club too. They didn’t want to disturb us, so they just left a note to say hi.”
Aveline couldn’t possibly repeat what Josephine wrote and upset her maternal grandparents.
Paulina didn’t suspect anything and pulled Aveline into her arms. “Aveline, have you thought it through? Are you sure you want to change your name?”
Aveline nodded. “I don’t even need to think about it. There’s nothing worth holding onto with the Sutton name.”
“My pen name as an architect is Aveline Baldwin. I never used the Sutton name at all.”
Collin said in a deep voice, “Jacob doesn’t deserve to be your father. It’s good to change it.”
Aveline hugged Paulina without speaking, her face a cold mask.
When they arrived at Garden Estate, the car pulled directly into the villa’s courtyard, while the black Bentley following behind stopped at the main gate.
Xavier got out of the car and walked into the courtyard.
Collin and Paulina got out of the car, and Collin said, “Xavier, thanks for driving us home.”
Xavier replied, “It was no trouble at all. I was happy to do it.”
“Good night, Collin, Paulina.”

Collin and Paulina figured he wanted to talk to Aveline, so they went inside ahead of them.
Aveline started to go inside, her expression cold, but Xavier stopped her. “Aveline, wait. Just hear me out.”
Aveline tried to pull away, and he immediately let go. “Don’t yank your arm like that. You’ll hurt yourself”
“Hah. If you’re so kind, then stop grabbing my hand all the time.
Xavier looked at her. “What the note said isn’t true.”
“I’m not interested in whether it’s true or not.
Aveline cut Xavier off and turned to go into the house.
Xavier, afraid she would yank her arm away again, didn’t dare grab her hand. He put his arm around her shoulder instead.
“Just let me finish. Once I’m done, I’ll let you go inside.”
“I was visiting Alfred at his home in Kralville and saw that painting. I recognized your mother’s signature, and when I asked Alfred, I found out he had bought it from a friend.”
“Alfred loved that painting. He said the artist was incredibly gifted and that he really admired your mother’s talent.”
“I offered to buy the painting, but he wouldn’t sell. So I offered to trade him a villa designed by Bernard for it, promising it would find a good home.”
“Alfred considered his age, and he knows what kind of person I am. He knew I would treasure the painting, so he agreed to the trade.”
“The reason I wanted that painting was to give it to you or your maternal grandparents.”
“Because I remember you telling me that years ago, your mother sold many of her favorite paintings to fund Jacob’s business, and you hoped to buy them all back one day.”
“You told me you were just kidding, that your mother’s paintings are worth a lot now and it’s unrealistic to buy them all back since you don’t know who owns them. But I know that’s not how you really feel. I know you really do want them all back.”
“So whenever I find one, I’ll definitely buy it back for you.”
