Then he turned and got back in the car, his expression cold and grim.
Amy glanced in the rearview mirror. “Mr. Beltran, are we leaving now?”
Xavier gave a quiet “mhm.”
The car drove out of the complex, and since Xavier hadn’t said where they were going, Amy had to ask:
“Mr. Beltran, where to?”
After a long moment, Xavier finally told Amy, “Back to Parkview Estates.”
He was in a bad mood, so his face must have been grim. If he went back to the Beltran’s mansion, the Patriarch would surely question him.
Xavier glanced at the phone in his hand and scoffed to himself.
Aveline had blocked Josephine’s WhatsApp and phone number, so he couldn’t call and take his anger out on her.
When he got to Parkview Estates and walked through the villa gate, he saw two cars in the driveway. One was Gerald’s, and the other was Leona’s.
Xavier got out of the car, glanced coldly at the other vehicle, and then walked up
the steps.
Helena heard the car pull in and had already come out to stand by the door.
Xavier asked, “Why did you let them in?”
Helena was surprised and said, “I thought Mr. Henderson and the Heiress had arranged with you to come tonight, so…”
She grumbled to herself, Sir, you never told me not to let them in.
One is your childhood friend, and the other is your older sister. How could I not let them in?
Xavier knew he was being unreasonable, so his tone softened a little. “It’s fine.”
Then he walked into the house.

In the living room, he saw not only Gerald and Leona sitting on the sofa, but Josephine was there
too
Xavier’s expression immediately turned cold. He glanced at the three of them, and before he could speak, Josephine had already stood up and said timidly,
“Xav, L.”
Leona also stood up and put her arm around Josephine’s shoulder. “Don’t be afraid. Gerald and I brought you here. If Xavier is going to blame someone, he can blame us.”
Gerald stood up too, backing Leona up, a hint of annoyance in his eyes as he looked at Xavier.
Xavier tossed the crumpled note in his hand onto the coffee table, his dark eyes fixed coldly on Josephine as he said in a frigid tone,
“What is this?”
When Josephine saw the crumpled paper, her heart sank. Could it be the note she wrote to Aveline? she wondered.
But she forced a confused expression. “Wh–what is this?”
Xavier’s dark eyes were icy. “Don’t tell me you didn’t write this.”
Josephine met Xavier’s dagger–like eyes and shuddered, secretly hating Aveline for actually showing the note to Xavier.
In fact, at this moment, she was filled with regret. Why had she been so impulsive as to write that note to Aveline?
She should have known Aveline would show it to Xavier.
At the time, she had been so humiliated that she’d lost her senses.
Josephine told herself to stay calm and think hard about how to defend herself.
Just as she was about to pick up the note, Leona, out of curiosity, snatched it up first, unfolding it to read while saying,
“Why is it crumpled up like this? Do you have a grudge against this piece of paper?”
Josephine pressed her lips together.
When Leona read the words on the note, she froze and looked over at Josephine.
