Xavier laughed, thinking to himself how amusing the Patriarch was. His grandson was being targeted with passive–aggressive sarcasm by his granddaughter–in–law, and he still had the grace to like the post.
Then, he also saw that Sebastian and Kyle had liked it too.
Xavier’s expression turned cold and grim.
Why were these two getting involved? Did they even know who Aveline was referring to before they liked it?
He sent a message to Aveline, [Is it fun being passive–aggressive about your own husband on your Social Feed?]
[How about I just announce on my Social Feed that we already have our marriage certificate?]
Aveline had just driven to Mount Ardwood and went with Jasmine to check on the Crestmark construction site first, since it had been a while.
After entering the site office and chatting with Julian for a bit, she finally picked up her phone to check her messages while drinking coffee.
Aveline’s face went cold, and she immediately replied: [Fine. After you announce it, I’ll immediately announce that you cheated, and that I’ve already filed for divorce.]
Bring it on.
Xavier felt a sense of defeat. He stared at the message with his dark, subdued eyes for a long moment before asking her,
[You’re at Mount Ardwood?]
[It’s getting hotter. Be careful of the heat.]
Of course, Aveline didn’t reply to him.
In the meeting room, everyone was glancing, intentionally or not, at Xavier’s sour expression, wondering who he was texting that was putting him in such a bad mood.
Xavier sensed the unusual atmosphere in the room, put down his phone, and said, “Continue.”

But just then, his phone vibrated again. This time it was a message from Lauren, [Is Aveline’s Social Feed post about you?]
You’d actually steal her things?]
With a cold face, Xavier turned his phone off.
After the meeting, Xavier had just sat down in his office when Ryan came in and said,
“Mr. Beltran, the film crew applied for another hundred million today.”
Xavier looked up at him. “How long has this movie been filming?”
He remembered it had just started.
Ryan replied, “Mr. Beltran, I looked into it. A few days after filming started, Steven suddenly stopped for two or three days, saying he wasn’t feeling well. The two leads were upset because they were worried it would delay their next projects, but Steven promised them a raise to calm them down.”
“Steven’s back to filming now. I did the math, and they’ve only been shooting for a week.”
Xavier laughed. “Only a week of shooting, and three hundred million is gone. Now they’re asking for another hundred million.”
“Making movies is really like burning money. I’m afraid even a billion won’t be enough.”
Ryan thought Mr. Beltran’s laugh seemed a little sinister.
“Mr. Beltran, I’ve read the script. This movie doesn’t actually need a billion. Two to three hundred million is enough at most. Considering the high pay for the two leads, you’d just add another hundred million.”
“And…”
Seeing him hesitate, Xavier’s dark eyes grew cold. “And what?”
Ryan, remembering that Mr. Beltran already planned to replace the director, Josephine, took a chance and said, “And the script is no good. In fact… you could even call it a garbage script. No matter how much money you throw at marketing, you’ll never make a profit.”
Xavier’s eyes turned even colder.
He had thought that even though it was Josephine’s first time directing a movie, she was a film major in grad school. He started her off with a billion–dollar investment, so she should have been able to pick a good script.

But she ended up picking a terrible script
Was this unprofessional, a lack of talent, or was she up to something?
