Chapter 46
But Aveline couldn’t tell Bernard she was backing out yet. Everything had to wait for the final result, or Bernard would think she gave up without a fight, that she had no ambition.
When Jasmine and Julian saw that Aveline hadn’t told Bernard about her relationship with Xavier, they exchanged a look.
They both came to the same understanding: Aveline was divorcing Xavier, so she didn’t want to be associated with him anymore.
During the meal, Bernard said he had arranged a meeting with Simon Barron, the project director for the Mount Ard- wood Theme Park, for three o’clock tomorrow afternoon at the Tea Lounge on the first floor of The Croft Tower.
Jasmine asked, “Bernard, will the president of the be there?”
Bernard replied to her, “Simon said he might come. It depends on whether Mr. Beltran is free.”
Thinking they were nervous about meeting the president of the, he smiled and said, “I heard from Simon that Xavier is pretty easy to get along with, and he really appreciates talented people, so if he comes, you don’t need to be ner- vous.”
Jasmine pouted and thought to herself, Xavier, easy to get along with? Yeah, right. She glanced at Aveline.
Aveline’s expression was indifferent as she took a sip of her red wine, saying nothing.
Julian glanced at her too, figured he should ask, and said, “Bernard, do you think the might have other ideas?”
Bernard knew Julian meant the might reject his recommendation and hire someone else. He laughed and said,
“If the hires someone else, then I won’t be their consultant.”
“Besides, Aveline isn’t just any architect. She’s won several major industry awards and is already making a name for herself internationally. Right now, no architect in the country can compare to her. If the doesn’t hire you, who else would they hire?”
“If the doesn’t hire you, it just means they lack foresight, and the project won’t turn out well.
Of course, if the were to spend a fortune hiring a master from abroad, that would be a different story. But Simon told me that Xavier wants to hire someone local.”
Hearing Bernard say all this, Jasmine and Julian felt a glimmer of hope.
But Aveline didn’t feel the same way. After all, she had just seen Dylan and Xavier about to have dinner together.
She knew how much Xavier doted on Josephine, so she had a feeling there would be complications,

Chapter 46
After dinner, they saw Bernard off at the elevator, and then they got into an elevator heading to the underground
garage.
Aveline told Jasmine and Julian that she had seen Dylan, so they could be mentally prepared.
Jasmine said irritably, “Damn it, how could I forget about Dylan? He’s Josephine’s cousin and gave you so much trou- ble back in school.”
Julian said, “Dylan’s a decent architect, but he can’t compare to Aveline. Xavier wouldn’t really hire him, would he?” Jasmine scoffed, “When a man is bewitched by a woman, he’ll do anything. Josephine is no simple woman, and Xavier isn’t a very self–disciplined man.”
Julian didn’t say anything, just glanced at Aveline.
Aveline said, “Regardless, Bernard was kind enough to recommend us, so we have to work hard for this. We can’t let him down.”
Jasmine and Julian both nodded in agreement.
Since they had been drinking, the three of them called a designated driver service.
Back at the studio, as soon as she walked in, Aveline heard her phone chime with a text alert from her purse.
She took it out and saw it was a message from Xavier: [Lily Dawson has a parent–teacher conference tomorrow after- noon. I’m busy, you go.]
Let alone the fact that Aveline was meeting Bernard to see Simon tomorrow afternoon, even if she were free, she would never let Xavier order her around like that.
Her expression was cold as she replied: [I’m busy.]
