Chapter 50
Although Valentina preferred her as an aunt compared to Josephine, Aveline felt that Xavier would never have thought of bothering or burdening Josephine,
When it comes to someone you love, you’d never want them to suffer the slightest grievance or hardship.
At seven o’clock, Aveline apologetically said that she had a niece at home with no one to look after her and that she had to leave.
The meal was winding down by then, with everyone just casually eating, drinking, and chatting about architectural design, so no one paid much mind to her early departure.
Leaving the private dining room, Aveline called a car and headed back to the Anmin Residential Community.
Once she entered the community and got to her building, she saw Xavier’s black Bentley parked out front, with the driver sitting in the driver’s seat.
The car window was down. The driver saw her and said, “Ma’am.”
Aveline gave a cool hum of acknowledgment and entered the building.
Upstairs, as she reached the studio door, she could hear Valentina’s happy laughter from inside.
Aveline opened the door and went inside. Hearing the noise, Valentina immediately shouted, “Auntie, Auntie’s back!”
Aveline walked in to see Valentina running toward her, while Xavier sat on the sofa, his dark eyes watching her indif- ferently.
Aveline coldly looked away, stroked Valentina’s head, and asked gently, “Have you eaten, Valentina?”
Valentina nodded and said, “We ate. Uncle took me for burgers and fried chicken. Auntie, we even brought a bucket of fried chicken for you.”
As she spoke, she pointed to the coffee table.
Aveline had to glance over, and saw Xavier was still looking at her.
She found him annoying. Didn’t he say he had a flight to catch? She was back, so why hadn’t he left yet?
Xavier saw she was warm and friendly to Valentina but cold to him. He gave a faint smile and stood up.
“Alright, your auntie’s back, so it’s time for your uncle to head to the airport.”
Valentina said without a hint of reluctance, “Bye, Uncle.”
Xavier chuckled. “You’re eager for your uncle to leave, aren’t you.”

Valentina felt a little embarrassed. “Well then, Uncle, I’ll walk you out.”
“No need. Your auntie can see me out.”
As he said this, Xavier glanced at Aveline.
Although Aveline didn’t want to deal with him, she thought he had something to tell her about Valentina, so she had to go out with him.
Standing in the foyer, Xavier said as he put on his leather shoes, “You drank so much. Did Sebastian give you the project?
Which Crestmark project were you going for?”
So he thought her business dinner today was with Sebastian. Aveline’s lips curled into a sneer. “Xavier, we’re getting a divorce. My business is none of your concern.”
Xavier looked up at her and said flatly, “Stop bringing up the divorce all the time. I’ve already told Gerald to hurry up with the agreement.”
“I’ll try my best to be back tomorrow afternoon to pick up Valentina from school. If I can’t make it, you go get her.”
After he finished, he looked at Aveline again.
Aveline turned away coldly, ignoring him, and went back inside.
Behind her, Xavier walked out and closed the door.
Valentina was sitting on the sofa watching cartoons on a tablet. Aveline said, “Valentina, it’s time for us to take a bath. It’s almost bedtime.”
Valentina was engrossed, her eyes glued to the tablet. She said, “Auntie, can I watch for just a little longer?”
Aveline said helplessly, “Alright, just ten more minutes.”
Valentina nodded obediently. “Okay, Auntie.”
