Chapter 522
Josephine opened her eyes, “What? A court summons?
For me?
What for?”
As she spoke, she quickly sat up.
Courtney handed her the notice, “It’s about Eileen’s case. Aveline’s side requested you to appear in court.”
Josephine’s eyes widened, “Why am I being called to court for that case?”
“Wait, Mom, don’t tell me Aveline listed me as a defendant too, saying I told Eileen to harm her?”
Courtney shook her head. “Look at the notice. You’re not the defendant. Aveline wants you to appear in court as a witness, to question you.”
Josephine unfolded the notice, saying, “What are they going to ask me? I’m obviously on Eileen’s side. Why would she call me to testify?”
This was exactly what worried Courtney. “Has Aveline gotten her hands on some kind of evidence?”
“It’s not that Eileen plans to sell you out, is it?”
Josephine cried out in alarm, “No way!”
“Hurry up and get ready, then call Eileen and ask her what’s going on.”
Josephine quickly got out of bed and went to the bathroom. After washing up, she returned to her bedroom, picked up her phone, and called Eileen.
Eileen had also just received the court notice, but she didn’t know Josephine had to appear. When she heard, she smiled, feeling a sense of glee. After all, Josephine had instigated the tripping incident with Aveline, yet had gotten away scot–free. Eileen wasn’t happy about that.
But she feigned surprise, saying, “Huh? Why are they calling you to testify?”
Josephine questioned her, “Did you say something to Aveline?”

Chapter 522
“Of course not. Am I crazy? Why would I tell her you put me up to it?”
Hearing this, Josephine was annoyed. She felt like Eileen was blaming her.
“Eileen, remember you took my money. Don’t say anything stupid.”

“Josie, what are you so angry about? Aveline is the one suing me, and Aveline is the one calling you to testify. You should be the one who doesn’t say anything stupid in court and get me sent to jail.”
Josephine said sharply, “If I say the wrong thing, wouldn’t I be hurting myself too?”
“Do you dare swear you didn’t stab me in the back and say something to Aveline?”
Eileen said, annoyed, “Swear what? I really didn’t. If I exposed you, I’d go to jail too, okay? Am I that stupid?”
“Good, as long as you know. I’ll talk it over with Gerald, and we’ll plan out what to say in court.”
Josephine hung up and told her mother the situation. Courtney said, “Let’s get breakfast first. After breakfast, contact Gerald and see what to do.”
A black Bentley was speeding back to the city. Xavier was in the back seat, resting with his eyes closed, when his phone rang.
He opened his eyes, picked up the phone beside him, and saw it was a call from Gerald. He answered, “Hello, what’s up?”
Hearing his groggy voice, Gerald thought he was still asleep and had been woken by the phone. He asked, “Are you still at Mount Ardwood?
Still sleeping?”
Xavier cleared his throat and asked, “What is it?”
Gerald immediately flared up. “Do you have any idea that Aveline is making Josie testify in court?”
Xavier was startled, thinking it was Aveline calling Josephine to testify in their divorce case. He quickly asked, “Testify for what? Wasn’t that case suppressed? How could there be a hearing?”
Gerald was confused. “What are you talking about? Did you help suppress Eileen’s case?”
Hearing it was Eileen’s case, Xavier breathed a sigh of relief. “Damn it, Gerald, you need to be clearer. It’s Eileen’s case.”
