He judged from Xavier’s cold attitude toward him in the hotel lobby that the outcome wouldn’t be good, but he was still hoping that Josephine would put in a good word for him with Xavier after he returned to the city.

Simon arrived and told him, “My computer was unlocked, and there’s a record of it. It happened right during the time you went into the small conference room.”

“Afterward, you modified your original concept drawings on your computer. The revision history indicates you changed them based on Aveline’s creative work.’

“Mr. Beltran’s decision is that you must leave the project team. The reason given won’t be for stealing creative work, but for incompetence.”

Dylan flew into a rage, “You have no proof I stole any creative work, and you’re kicking me off the project team for being incompetent? Are you just bullying me?”

Simon replied coldly, “Dylan, I admit I couldn’t gather enough evidence to prove you stole the idea, but if we go to court, what I just said could certainly influence the judge’s decision.”

“Or, do you think we should release your and Aveline’s concept drawings and let the industry decide who’s right and who’s wrong?”

Dylan was shocked into silence. As an architect, he knew that if those two concept drawings were released, everyone would think Aveline’s was better and conclude he was the plagiarist.

Simon added, “There’s no reason to suspect Aveline had any access to your design, but there is reason to suspect you had access to my computer. You need to think carefully, don’t completely ruin your career.”

Dylan thought, Xavier has only been back in town for a day, so Josephine probably hasn’t had a chance to plead with him yet. He should try to stall.

So he said, “Mr. Barron, let me think about it.”

“Dylan, there’s nothing to consider. You need to clear your things out of the main conference room tonight and be gone by tomorrow morning at the latest. You can’t stay on the project team.”

“Security is right outside, waiting for you to pack up.”

“Of course, if you want to stay at the Beltran Hotel as a private guest, we’d be happy to have you.”

“Go find Mr. Beltran now.”

Josephine replied, “Cousin, Xav has only been back in town for a day. I haven’t had a chance to see him yet.”

“Simon already has security packing my things. He told me to be gone by tomorrow morning. If I don’t leave, I’ll have to pay for the hotel myself.”
