Chapter 532
Xavier drank half his water, put the glass down, and said flatly, “You asked me to come. Is there something you need?”
Gerald snapped, “Can’t I ask you out for a drink even if there’s nothing specific?”
Xavier said flatly, “So there’s nothing.”
Then, he turned to Josephine and was about to speak, but she spoke first.
“Xav, Gerald might not have anything to say, but I actually do.”
“My dad’s birthday is coming up. The party is this Friday night. You and Aveline have to come.
Xavier stared at her with cold, dark eyes.
She knew perfectly well that Aveline would never attend Jacob’s birthday party, yet she still extended the invitation with such a sincere expression. Her cunning and composure were truly impressive.
The women he encountered in politics and business were almost all decisive and efficient. Even if some were skilled at scheming, he could handle them with ease, as business was like a battlefield.
In his personal life, he didn’t interact with many women. Besides his mother and sisters at home, there was only Aveline, and none of them were the scheming type; they were more straightforward and genuine.
Xavier realized he had made a huge mistake. He had let his guard down because he thought Josephine saved him, assuming she was an innocent person.
When Josephine saw the cold look in Xavier’s eyes, she was terrified and clenched her fists.
Xavier noticed it sharply and glanced over.
Josephine stuttered, “Xa- Xav, what’s wrong? Are you not feeling well? Why aren’t you talking?”
Gerald frowned slightly, unhappy with the way Xavier was looking at Josephine, and asked, “Have you taken your medicine?”
Xavier ignored Gerald, staring at Josephine and asking, “You’re the one who told Dylan to cause a scene before he left, aren’t you?”

Chapter 532
Josephine’s heart skipped a beat, but her face was a mask of confusion. “What? My cousin made a scene?”
“Why did my cousin make a scene?
Xav, I don’t understand what you mean. Where did my cousin go?”
Xavier said calmly, “Dylan’s other phone, do you have it with you?”
Josephine had never heard Dylan mention another phone. Why was Xavier asking if she had it?
Was Xavier testing her?
How was she supposed to answer?
Josephine chose to deflect. “Did Xav do something wrong?”
Xavier replied, “You don’t know?”
Josephine thought for a moment. She felt she couldn’t say she didn’t know, since Dylan was counting on her to plead with Xavier for him. So she said:
“My cousin said my sister suspects he stole her design concept.”
“It’s not that Aveline suspects it. I’m certain he stole the lead architect’s design concept.”
When he said “I’m certain,” Josephine knew it would be difficult for her to plead his case.
“Xav, my cousin wouldn’t do something like that.”
Xavier laughed. “So my wife would do something like that?”
Josephine felt a pang in her chest, stung by Xavier’s words “my wife.”
Then she averted her gaze, because although Xavier had a smile on his face, the cold light in his dark eyes seemed to pierce right through her.
What was going on?
Was Xavier here tonight to confront her?
Josephine glanced at Gerald. Gerald got the hint, and he was already annoyed by Xavier’s aggressive attitude. Annoyed, he said,
“Xavier, what are you doing? Are you interrogating Josie like she’s a criminal?”
