It was a well–known international firm, and the one in Kralville was a branch office. Only very talented architects could get in.
“Auntie, is this contract real?”
Courtney glanced at him. “I’m your aunt. Would I lie to you?”
“Don’t worry. I pulled some strings to get you this spot. There’s absolutely no problem.”
Dylan believed that Courtney wouldn’t harm him. After all, this aunt had doted on him since he was a child, and Courtney had always been helping her maiden home.
“Okay, Auntie. As long as I can get into Moderne, I’ll do it.”
Besides, Dylan also harbored a deep resentment for Xavier, Simon, and Aveline.
When Xavier returned to the Beltran’s mansion after work, his mother said to him at dinner, “The Sutton family sent an invitation for Jacob’s birthday dinner on Friday, asking our whole family to go. How come you never mentioned this?”
Xavier replied coolly, “Aveline isn’t going, so I’m not going either. My older sisters can decide for themselves.”
Rupert looked up at him. “Is Aveline’s relationship with her father that strained? She won’t even go for his birthday?”
Lauren also said, “At Christopher’s birthday, I could tell Aveline really dislikes Jacob. I thought it was because of Courtney and Josephine, but now she’s not even showing up for his birthday. Is she trying to sever her relationship with him as her father?”
“Maybe we could just send a gift.”
Speaking of gifts, Xavier remembered Josephine asking him to buy a birthday present for Jacob, and he had bought her an expensive painting. A surge of anger welled up inside him, and his face turned cold.
“I already bought him a painting. There’s no need to send another gift.”
“My mother–in–law just passed away, and Jacob moved Courtney and his illegitimate daughter in. It’s understandable that Aveline wants to cut ties with him.”

Chapter 541
Rupert thought about Jacob’s character and felt it was better for the not to get too close to him. Besides, he didn’t like Aveline’s father anyway.
But they still had to keep up appearances.
He said to Lauren, “Why don’t you pick out a gift and have the butler send it over?”
Xavier said flatly. “Didn’t I just say? I already sent a painting, one that’s worth over ten million.”
Lauren looked at him, confused. “You said Aveline dislikes her father, so why would you buy such an expensive painting for him?”
“Does Aveline know? Or did Aveline pick it?”
Xavier didn’t want to say that Josephine had asked him to buy it, so he said flatly, “Aveline knows, but she didn’t ask me to buy it. I bought it when I was in Singapore.”
“This is a one–time thing. It won’t happen again.”
Lauren said. “Since you’ve sent a ten–million–dollar painting on behalf of our family, we don’t need to send another gift. No one can fault us for that.”
“As for Aveline, his daughter, what she does is her own business.”
Xavier said flatly, “Aveline is also a member of the. She and I are a married couple, a single unit. The painting I sent is from her as well.”
Rupert said, “That makes sense. Let’s do that. If Aveline doesn’t want to go, then none of us will. After all, we’d only be going for Aveline’s sake.”
“As for Leona and Brielle, let them do what they want.”
He said to Lauren, “Just let the two sisters know.‘
Xavier was in the city, constantly worried about Aveline’s foot injury, and Helena often gave him updates.
On Friday morning, Helena told him that Madam had started walking in slippers today, was doing well, and it didn’t hurt anymore.
