Chapter 67

Aveline said in a cold voice, I’ll take your car. Let go.

Xavier gave her a deep, dark look before letting go of his hand.

Aveline immediately moved a few steps away from him, her face as cold as if it were dipped in ice.

Xavier looked at her, then calmly averted his gaze.

The elevator soon stopped. As the doors opened, Aveline strode out.

A black Bentley was parked in front of the apartment building. The driver saw her and called out, Ma’am.

Aveline ignored him completely, opening the back door and getting straight into the car.

Even though Xavier was right behind her, she still slammed the door shut.

Xavier paused, looked down and chuckled, then walked around to the other side to get in.

Let’s go. To the Granvia Restaurant.

Xavier said to the driver.

In the small space of the back seat, filled with Xavier’s faint masculine scent and sandalwood, Aveline turned her face to look out the window.

Even though Aveline was Xavier’s fiancée and then his wife, she could count the number of times she’d been in this. Bentley on one handonly two or three times.

But Josephine? Countless times.

Xavier’s phone started ringing in the car. Aveline’s eyes moved slightly because the ringtone was a familiar song.

It was an obscure song that the girls in her dorm had all loved in college. Later, after Jacob brought Courtney and Josephine home, Aveline stopped listening to it because Josephine played it every day.

Xavier wasn’t the type to set a custom ringtone, so Josephine must have set it for him.

Xavier answered, HelloYeahThe Patriarch is back in the country, we’re eating outYeah, some other time.

Then, he hung up.

Although it was a bit muffled, Aveline could tell it was a woman’s voice. It had to be Josephine.

The car fell silent, so quiet you could almost hear them breathing.

When they arrived at the Granvia Restaurant, Aveline got out of the car and walked into the lobby by herself to wait

for Xavier.

Xavier came in, walked over to her, glanced at her and said, Second floor.

Aveline said nothing and followed him to the second floor.

Leona was standing outside the private dining room, glaring at Aveline. Aveline, you’ve gotten so high and mighty now, making Xavier come and get you personally.

Right. In the past, it was always Aveline going to get Xavier, even begging him. Now, he just asks her to come and soothe his grandfather’s mood, and Leona is already feeling sorry for him.

A sarcastic smile touched Aveline’s lips.

After she stopped begging Xavier, she regained her dignity.

She said coolly, If he wanted to invite me, why didn’t you stop him?

You

Aveline pushed the door open and walked in.

Leona glared at Xavier, as if to say, See how arrogant Aveline is?

Xavier’s dark eyes watched Aveline’s back. He said nothing and followed her inside.

In front of the Patriarch, Leona wouldn’t dare cause any trouble, so she wiped the unpleasant look off her face and obediently followed them into the private dining room.

Rupert, Lauren, and Brielle were all there, and they looked over at Aveline.

Rupert’s gaze sharpened, Lauren looked displeased, and Brielle had a gentle smile.

Aveline walked up to Rupert and said calmly, Patriarch.

Rupert’s hair was completely white, but he looked healthy, and his eyes were bright and sharp. Hearing Aveline ad- dress him, he frowned slightly.

Ever since Aveline and Xavier got engaged, she had always called him Grandfather.

Rupert said lightly, Mhm, have a seat.

Aveline didn’t greet Lauren or Brielle, just glanced at them in acknowledgement before finding a seat away from ev-
