Chapter 77
Aveline walked past Jacob, heading into the clubhouse, when Gloria Sutton said, “You’re becoming more and more disgraceful. Don’t tell anyone outside that you’re from the Sutton family. You have no manners.”
Aveline ignored her and continued inside, then she heard Courtney say:
“Xavier, look, just look. This is how she is. Her dad and her grandmother don’t know what to do with her. It’s heart- breaking.”
Aveline’s lips curled into a sneer, but she wouldn’t turn back to argue, because it wasn’t worth it.
Because she was a member, she spoke to a waiter, and the waiter led them to a small private dining room.
As soon as they got inside, Jasmine finally let out the breath she’d been holding. “You’re really good at holding it in.
Aveline, have you always put up with them like this?”
Aveline sat down and told the waiter which tea they wanted. After he left, she looked at Jasmine and said calmly:
“They’re just putting on a show. Arguing with them at the clubhouse entrance is beneath me.”
Jasmine frowned. “But if Xavier hears them say that about you, won’t he get the wrong idea?”
Aveline gave a faint smile. “Let’s order. Get whatever you want.”
It didn’t matter if Xavier got the wrong idea or not. It was all irrelevant now.
Aveline had to drive, so the two of them didn’t order any alcohol. They ordered a lot of food, though, and couldn’t fin- ish it all.
Aveline saw there was way too much leftover food, so she had it packed to go. That took care of tomorrow’s lunch.
When they were leaving, she saw Xavier in the first–floor lobby. He was holding a pen in one hand and a folder in the other, apparently signing something.
Standing across from Xavier was Claude Steele. He saw Aveline, glanced at her, and deliberately raised an eyebrow.
Xavier handed the folder and pen to Claude, noticed his gesture, and glanced back, seeing Aveline as well.
He waited for Aveline to approach. When she was close, he said, “We need to talk.”
Aveline gave him a cold look and said flatly, “Talk to my lawyer.”
Xavier chuckled. “What’s there to consider? If it’s about the stock, that’s to keep my mom from bothering you.
Those three companies are only going to get more profitable. You can look at the financial statements.”

As he said this, he tilted his head to look down at her.
Aveline’s expression didn’t change. She kept walking without looking at him or saying another word.
Her message was clear: talk to her lawyer.
From behind, Josephine’s voice called out, “Darling, what’s taking you so long just to sign something?”
Then Claude’s voice, “Mr. Beltran, it’s not appropriate to show her the company’s financial reports, is it?”
Xavier said coolly, “This is between my wife and me. Stay out of it.”
Aveline and Jasmine walked out of the clubhouse, so she never found out what they said after that.
Once they were in the car, Jasmine asked, “When you divorced Xavier, didn’t he give you much in the settlement?”
Aveline gave Jasmine the gist of it.
Jasmine frowned. “Forget the time you were just dating. You were engaged, lived with him, took care of him for a year, and then you got married. For him to only give you this is outrageous.
You should have gotten a stake in the.”
Thinking about how Xavier had casually given Josephine a billion to make a movie–with no limit–made her frown
even more.
Aveline said flatly, “If I fought for all that, the divorce would have to go to court, and who knows how long that would take. Forget it.‘
་་
Jasmine sighed, “You’re just too kind. That’s why Xavier and Josephine have you completely under their thumb.”
Aveline’s tone was still nonchalant, “It’s a clean break. They can’t get to me anymore.”
She dropped Jasmine off at home and then drove back to her studio.
As soon as she walked in, a call came from Leona. Aveline glanced at it and coldly placed her phone on the night-
stand.
It rang for a while before stopping.
A little later, as Aveline was grabbing her pajamas to shower, her phone rang again. It was a call from Lauren.
She didn’t answer, of course, and went to take her shower.
When she got out of the shower, she saw that Lauren had sent several angry texts.
【Are you not answering my calls because you’re guilty?】

Jacob put on a pained expression, “Aveline, how did you turn out like this?
I’m your father, why are you treating me like an enemy?”
