Urging Him to Get a Divorce novel Chapter 83

Chapter 83

Xavier’s gaze shifted from Aveline’s face to Sebastian’s. Mr. Harmon, what a coincidence,he said flatly.

Gerald’s lips twitched, More than a coincidence. We just happened to see Mr. Harmon helping Isabella with her cake.

He was teasing them just for helping with a cake. The words were loaded, but Xavier didn’t care who they were for.

Aveline shot him a cold glance and started walking into the club, Mr. Harmon, let’s go inside.

Okay.

Sebastian agreed, following Aveline inside.

Xavier and Gerald followed behind them. Gerald said, That cake is for Fiona, right?

Sebastian replied without looking back, Yes, if Mr. Henderson and Mr. Beltran don’t mind, feel free to join us.

Gerald turned to look at Xavier and saw his dark, distant gaze fixed on Aveline’s back. The corner of Gerald’s mouth curled.

Even though Xavier didn’t like Aveline, they had officially registered the marriage. They were still husband and wife until they divorced. Seeing his wife getting close to another man must have pissed him off.

Gerald said, Of course I want to go over and wish Fiona a happy birthday, but she’s been giving me the cold shoulder lately. I’m afraid she’ll kick me out.

Sebastian let out a soft laugh. Fiona isn’t that petty.

Since Mr. Harmon says so, we’ll definitely head over in a bit.

When they reached the second floor, Aveline went straight into the private dining room Fiona had booked, never once looking back at Xavier and Gerald.

Sebastian, however, politely nodded to the two of them before entering the private dining room.

Xavier and Gerald’s private dining room was next door. Once inside, Gerald scoffed:

Xavier, you saw it yourself. Aveline still treats you with utter contempt. She’s not satisfied with that agreement at all. She just wants half of your fortune.

Xavier walked to the liquor cabinet, poured a glass of whiskey, took a sip, and carried the drink over to the sofa to sit down. Only then did he look up at Gerald and say coolly:

I don’t mind, so why do you?

Let me ask you, did you tell my older sister about the agreement?

Gerald felt a pang of guilt, lowering his eyes and not daring to meet Xavier’s gaze.

The truth was, he couldn’t resist Josephine’s persistent questions and had told her. After all, she loved Xavier so much and didn’t want to see him fall into Aveline’s trap.

Seeing Gerald’s silence, Xavier took it as a silent admission.

He took another sip of his drink, his voice growing a few degrees colder. My older sister doesn’t like Aveline. Don’t tell her everything.

Gerald chuckled. Your older sister is just concerned about you. Actually, she’s a good judge of character. She never liked Aveline. And look, as soon as you and Aveline registered the marriage, she showed her true colors.

Xavier lowered his gaze to his drink, not saying a word.

In the private dining room next door, all of Fiona’s close friends and family had arrived. The cake was set out, the candles were lit, and everyone was singing Happy Birthdayto her.

Just as they were about to cut the cake, the door to the private dining room opened, and Xavier, Gerald, and Josephine walked in together.

Gerald smiled. Cutting the cake already? Sorry we’re late, we missed singing the birthday song for you. Here, Fiona, this is my gift. I had it ready for you for a while. Happy birthday.

Fiona’s face hardened as she glanced at Xavier and Josephine, then irritably accepted the gift.

After all, they were partners at the same law firm. In front of two other, more senior partners, Fiona still had to give Gerald some face.

But having Josephine and Xavier show up at her birthday party together felt like bad luck.

Josephine smiled. Fiona, happy birthday. If they hadn’t been waiting for me, Xav and Gerald would have been here sooner. I apologize on their behalf.

This is my gift.
