Aveline glanced at Josephine’s stiff expression and coldly looked away.
Fiona had never been a big fan of diamonds, and the design of that necklace was indeed too gaudy, as if it were tar- geted at the new rich.
Courtney loved diamonds. The more ornate and gaudy the design, the more she liked it. She wished she could be completely enveloped in the sparkle of diamonds, making everyone focus their attention on her.
Josephine’s taste was naturally cultivated by Courtney.
Xavier noticed Aveline’s reaction, smiled, and said, “Well, let’s see if you like my gift.”
Fiona glanced at him and unwrapped his gift. It was a pearl necklace.
The moment Aveline saw it, she knew Xavier had chosen correctly. Fiona did indeed like pearls, and this necklace, with its full, lustrous pearls, was very beautiful and elegant.
Although Fiona liked it, she pursed her lips and said, “It’s okay.”
Xavier smiled slightly and looked at Sebastian. “Mr. Harmon, what’s gotten into your sister lately? Someone who’s al- ways loved pearls suddenly doesn’t like them anymore.”
Sebastian laughed and said, “I’m sure she likes it.”
Xavier seemed to be waiting for those exact words. He said, “Josephine picked it out.”
Josephine was a little surprised. She glanced at Xavier, then started to laugh. “Yeah, that’s right. I picked it out.”
Aveline glanced at the two of them, a sneer forming on her lips as she looked away.
Xavier would even lie to help Josephine save face. He was really going to great lengths.
Fiona had probably figured it out. She glanced at Aveline and let out a soft laugh. “All Mr. Beltran has is money.”
She meant to mock Xavier for having money but no taste.
But of course, Fiona wasn’t referring to the pearl necklace, but his taste in women.
It was unclear if Xavier caught the insult, but he just smiled faintly.
Fiona pulled Sebastian’s and Aveline’s gifts in front of her. “I’m more interested in seeing what our two architects picked out.”
Gerald scoffed, “Knowing how much you dote on Aveline, you’d say you absolutely love it even if you didn’t.”
Fiona smiled back at Gerald, “With Aveline’s eye as an internationally famous designer, and how thoughtful and con-

siderate she always is to the people she loves, I’m sure I’ll love whatever she picked for me.”
As she spoke, Fiona shot a seemingly casual glance at Xavier.
Xavier was the person closest to Aveline. After Aveline’s mother passed away, she had focused all her attention on him. He was the person in the world who understood Aveline best.
But Xavier’s expression was indifferent, as if he hadn’t caught Fiona’s hint.
Josephine looked up at Xavier, and seeing no reaction from him, she lowered her head, the corners of her mouth turn- ing up slightly.
Fiona pursed her lips slightly; she shouldn’t have expected Xavier to grow a conscience.
She then picked up a box, saw it was from Aveline, and was about to put it down to open Sebastian’s first, saving Aveline’s for last.
But Aveline stopped her with a smile, “Go ahead and open mine first. Save Sebastian’s for the grand finale.”
Fiona laughed, “Alright, it doesn’t matter which of you two I open first anyway.”
It was an exquisite and beautiful pearl brooch, with an incredibly unique and creative design.
Fiona’s eyes lit up. “Aveline, how did you know I wanted this brooch? There are only five of these in the whole world.”
Designed by a famous designer, a limited edition, and the pearls were an extremely rare variety. A brooch like this was not cheap.
Aveline smiled, “How could I have known you wanted it? I just thought this brooch really suits your style.”
