Chapter 93
Entering the private dining room, she saw Xavier and Bernard standing by the dining table, clearly showing their gen- tlemanly manners by waiting for the ladies to be seated before they sat down.
Aveline saw Xavier looking at her, as if signaling for her to sit next to him. She coldly looked away and sat far from him, next to the deputy director.
Xavier smiled slightly and invited Mr. Clarke to sit.
The manager stood beside Xavier and said, “Mr. Beltran, as per Leo’s instructions, the dishes are ready. Would you like to add anything else?”
He was holding a menu.
Xavier took one and handed it to Bernard, “Mr. Clarke, take a look and see if there’s anything you’d like. The Spicy Cuisine here is quite authentic.”
Bernard smiled, “As long as it’s Spicy Cuisine, I like most of it. Let’s just go with what’s already been ordered.”
Xavier placed the menu on the lazy Susan, spun it in front of Aveline, and said, “Why don’t you add a few more dish- es, Ms. Sutton.”
Aveline said flatly, “Mr. Beltran is a regular, but this is my first time. It’s better if you order.”
Unsure if Xavier caught the hidden meaning in Aveline’s words, he gave her a deep look, then smiled and told the manager, “Serve the food first. We’ll add more if needed.”
The manager nodded and went to give the order.
At this kind of business dinner, Aveline couldn’t refuse to drink, especially since Bernard knew she could hold her liquor.
They had prepared a white wine that Bernard liked, which paired well with Spicy Cuisine. The moment Aveline tast- ed it, she knew it was top–shelf, at least a few hundred thousand a bottle.
Aveline glanced at Xavier.
Xavier obviously thinks a lot of Bernard. Otherwise, he never would have reluctantly signed her as the architect.
Aveline didn’t know much about Spicy Cuisine, but she could tell it was delicious. No wonder Xavier and Josephine came here often.
Even though she was over her feelings for Xavier, being in a place he and Josephine frequented, Aveline couldn’t help but imagine her fiancé and her half–sister secretly meeting here for dates.
Back then, did Xavier ever think about her, his fiancée? Did he feel any guilt?

A self–mocking smile touched Aveline’s lips.
Not a chance.
Aveline, stop torturing yourself. It’s all in the past. You’re a new person now.
Xavier, Bernard, and Simon sat together, so the three of them were deep in conversation. Aveline just focused on eat- ing and didn’t initiate any talk, but the associate director and the female assistant would say something to her from time to time, and she would just give a casual reply.
As Aveline picked up some food, she kept sensing out of the corner of her eye that Xavier was looking at her. When she looked toward him, he’d avert his gaze, as if he hadn’t been looking at her at all and it was just her imagination.
Aveline scoffed inwardly, knowing Xavier definitely had something to say to her.
She didn’t even have to guess. He must want to ask her about moving to Parkview Estates. She hadn’t replied to his message, so he was getting anxious.
After all, only after she moved in could he sign that agreement and then get a divorce.
She had no idea what Rupert had said to Xavier, but he was insistent that she move into Parkview Estates.
After drinking a lot of tea at The Croft Tower and then two glasses of red wine, Aveline had to get up and go to the
restroom.
The female assistant sitting next to her also stood up, and Aveline couldn’t tell if she wanted to accompany her or if she also needed to go.
